Just made the jump from f5 to f70

WOW!! I am excited. I have been lurking this forum for a long time. The first thing I would like to throw out is a Big thanks to Mike Hillis anyone who owns or wants an f5 should read his posts. I have been running my f5 for about 5 years. It is a good machine I found alot of good stuff with it. I almost didn't make the jump to the f70 cause I read a couple times that it wasn't much better than the f5. Well with only about 8 hrs or so on the f70 I can already tell it is better in trash. I was running the 11dd coil and it cuts through the trash and finds coins and at depth! It is with out any doubt deeper than my f5. I found coins with my f5 about maxed out at 7" 8" in perfect conditions, for me anyway. The f70 seems to do that with ease. Today I found a flat button about the size of a quater at an easy 10" and I didn't even have the thing cranked up. I almost gave up on digging cause my stupid pro pointer was getting my nerves.

Anyway sorry for such the long post just wanted to share my feelings about my new machine. Now I just need you guys to point me toward the Mike Hillis of the f70.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the F70.

Welcome to the world of the F70.
There really is no Mike Hillis type guy on this platform because the F70 can be used with so many different settings in so many different ways under so many different site conditions and we all seem to use sometimes wildly different methods but they all seem to work and we are successful.
So far nobody has gathered all the info up and put it in one place like Sven did with Mike's F5 "bible".

The T2/F75/F70 units are built on the same basic platform so a lot of the technical stuff is shared between them and I always try to notice and read posts about those units for tips and settings, also.
As people try the the shock and awe of what this thing is capable of continues to spread and still is today.

If you are into the deep technical stuff Tom D. Is a real scientist and has wrote a ton about this platform on another forum but a lot of it has been reposted here.

Do a search on settings here or on Google and tons of info will pop up

I myself have used that low sense, big coil method and have plucked out coins and jewelry from sites so trashy it is crazy..
I have waded into sites so infested with iron it sent others screaming into the night but using not only Tom D's disc 6 monotone method but also an insane technique I call the blast through method where I am in all metal with all other settings turned up to the max and learned to find totally masked and hidden targets that others never could.
Learning to do that took time and lots of practice but it is one of the most important arrows in my quiver of tricks and I use it all the time now at many different sites.

Each owner eventually finds their own personal way to be successful with this awesome tool and that info about how they do it is usually posted in this F Series forum somewhere so just look around.

This thing is more than just amazing...it almost seems magical in what it can do and find.
Sounds like you are just starting to find that out for yourself.

Thanks for all the links I will check them out. I don't know about that blast through method you described I think it would make me nuts. I kinda feel bad for my f5 cause it is a great machine but I know its just going to hang on the wall all lonely.

Sure it could drive you crazy, it helps if you start out that way.
To each his own...there are many different ways and settings that will probably work at different sites.
Such is the awesomeness of the F70.

I've not heard one bad word on that f70, I've had my f5 for about a year now and it's been a great machine but with reports like yours maybe Santa Claus will drop me a f70. Keep me posted on the differences you find between the two machines, this f5 and me have been through a lot of silver in the past year so I'm hesitant to give it up.

Yes I like my f5 very much. It found me a lot of good stuff I just felt I had a couple sites where I wanted to get deeper. The f70 impressed me in the first half hour of having it out. I was worried about everyone saying how chatty they are. I don't completely agree with that I took it to a place that I could only run my f5 at gain 60 threshold -4 and not have all kinds of noise. I can run the f70 much hotter at this site. A little more time will tell a better story but I think the f70 with the 11dd is better in trash than the f5 with the 5dd. How ever crazy that may sound

Guys don't forget to experiment with the threshold and the sensitivity. They can work together and do all kinds of nice things to make the F70 hum along. In the past if the detector didn't work at a site all I could do was turn the sensitivity down and if that didn't work I had to move on to another site. We just have to appreciate the Fisher detectors.....Z

My f5 has the 11" DD coil and in normal conditions I can get down to the h 6 to 7 inch range, this one park we hunt is an old park and has been used for years and it has been hunted hard. I'm thinking if I could get down to just the 8 to 9 inch range I could get a lot of silver, that's why I'm interested in how that f70 does in depth. Nice to have you on the forum

Yeah I could only get to about 7" maybe 8" at best with my f5. From what I have seen so far I don't think a couple inches more is going to be a problem at all. I pulled a deep wheat yesterday that I really don't think I would have sniffed with the f5 and the flat button was crazy deep. It has rained all day today so i haven't got out with it. But i will take the rain cause it has been to dry to dig a lot of places.

Well, I made it out for my first real F70 hunt and it just happened to be in the same park SL52 is talking about, It was a pretty long day and
pretty hot.
The three of us (me, SL52, WV62) didn't find a lot all together, but the F70 found the first silver of the day early on and that was a little sterling silver ring, then the F70 closed out the day by finding a pretty deep Standing Liberty quarter.
I found the ring using the little concentric football coil, then I changed to the 11" DD coil for hunting the area where I found the quarter, I wanted as much ground coverage and depth as I could get. The quarter was a SOLID 7" in the dirt with a pretty good bed of grass over top of it.
I only found like four other coins that day and they were clad (and of course some junk items). I did find another little clamp on earring that was broken into two pieces, but I'm not sure if its silver or not.

I think if you give the F70 some time you'll really like it, if you get in an area that's not real trashy where you can use the SL speed (just remember to slow down) you'll really be impressed.

Mark

I am very impressed with my f70. It has found it's first silver coin and a silver wedding band. I am going to give the first silver it found it's own post because I think it deserves it. Stay tuned!
