Took the 505 out to a small island with my kayak yesterday at a local lake to see what I might find. Nothing worth while but it was a little adventure none the less. On the way back I stopped at the swimming area where I had talked to another detectorists earlier in the day and found 52 cents and a bunch of pull tabs. Trying to find that gold you know. Felt good to get out and swing the coil. Happy hunting everyone!

Well thats good but right here ground frozens to hunt the way it looks maybe med march or april a school built in the early teens across from me got 45$ or 50$ out of there in a few months but nothing very deep but this year a early start for the deep stuff an the grass will grow back thats all happy mding too:twodetecting:

Sweet! That sounds like a really fun hunt. I would have brought a fishing pole and knocked off three hobbies in one trip, kayakin, fishin, and teckin, sounds like the perfect day! I got out for a little bit today and pulled one bullet. Tomorrow a few guys from our club and I are gonna take a little roadtrip and do some teckin, should be fun. You like your 505? Seems like that is a pretty good machine. What kinda depth can you get on coins?

In disc mode I have dug them to 7 inches BUT the ID was jumping around without a solid lock on any one area and it didn't go into the iron area on the screen. For the deeper targets if it is bouncing around and it does go into the iron area, for me in my dirt it is most likely trash. The deepest that I have dug with a solid lock on was right at 6 inches. On my freshly planted coin garden a couple of years ago I couldn't get a solid lock on 6 inches so the coin being in the ground for a while made a difference. Also just to put this out there, I really did not see an increase in depth in the disc mode with any of the 3 coils, but a noticeable depth increase in all metal mode progressively from smallest coil to largest coil. The 4 inch will get down just past 8 inches and the 10 inch coil to 14 to 16 inches on coin sized targets. If you are a dig it all guy the 505 will rival anything out there in all metal mode. Your area and your dirt may respond differently.
