Just purchased an ORX and a few questions

I am looking forward to the ORX. Just purchased one last night. I have never even been in the same room with any XP product and only have saw them on the internet and what I see here on the forums. They seem to be much more popular over in Europe as most videos on them are in England or Germany it seems. And also there just does not seem to be many here either. The ones of you who do post about the ORX seem satisfied overall with the unit.

I would like to know with those of you who have the ORX, what machine did you swing previously and also why do you like it better. I am not trying to stir up a stink or anything like that. I know most of us on here have more than one metal detector anyway including me. But I have been whittling it down for the past several months on some of the new units that have hit the scene and I think I have came to a conclusion that I know which ones I am probably going to keep and which ones will hit the road.

Also, I know the ORX seems to be a 0-99 TID if i am correct. So with that being said where does iron stop and non ferrous begin on the TID numbering system?

Any input and thoughts are welcome. HH, Tim

Iron rejection tops out at around 10, as with most machines large mis-shaped Iron will very often break through as a good tone but on the ORX/Deus Will give a low buzz and inconsistent numbers.
I run my ORX Iron rejection at 5.5.

I run my ORX iron discrimination between default 7 and 5.5. I really like the ORX for gold prospecting, relic hunting in thick iron and coin and jewelry hunting in areas that do not have thick aluminum trash. For going really deep or hunting in thick aluminum trash, I pick a different detector. The ORX will give an iron buzz on beer crown caps when moving the coil off of the target. It is a joy to swing.

I have only had my ORX for a week, but after the first two outings,I knew I
Would be favoring it over my Equinox 800. I’m happy with my equinox
but have never once had such results at “hunted out” sites as I have already had
with the orx. Have already invested in the hf elliptical coil and a 9” X35
I would not invest so much if I were not extremely impressed with the orx.
For me the orx is a better choice than the deus. The simplicity is an asset.

I did some relic hunting and 3 ring bullets came in around 85. Nickels are around 64. Copper pennies around 90 and Clad Quarter around 95.

So far my favorite settings are a modified coin fast. I change reactivity to 2.5 use 28Khz. In my ground it gets pretty good depth. I haven't figured out gold modes yet.

So far so good and I appreciate all of the replies from all of you. The only thing I am not a big fan of so far on the ORX is the no depth readout or running depth. I know it is not a big deal but with such a fast responding unit, I believe it would be easy to locate an object with just narrowing the sweep like on the old beep and dig units.

I was surprised today as I watched a video by The man with the hat I think is his name on youtube using an ORX. And doing very well with a high frequency and finding coins. I never thought about using such a high frequency while relic hunting with the so called hunted out areas. So now I am curious at how it will do for me here at home because I have pounded this place pretty hard.

I had been thinking of the Deus for a while. I never heard of the ORX until about a couple of months ago. I thought it was more of a gold prospecting unit. I was surprised at how many guys on youtube are using it for coin and relic hunting.

I also did not know that you could buy each component separately until the other day looking at some online. The main thing that really attracted me to the ORX is how light weight it is. I have an Equinox 600 and it is so easy and light in itself and now this one is even lighter.

This hobby sure has come along way from the old wrist breakers from days gone by that were popular back in the early to mid 80's. SO this thursday is the big day that mine will be showing up here at home. I cannot wait!!!

If you use the pinpoint function on the ORX you can also get an approximate depth reading. In my moderate to high mineralized dirt if the pinpoint box fills in completely along with louder audio it is a 1" or shallower target. If the pinpoint box fills in halfway, the target is around 3 to 4" deep. It takes some practice but it works well.

Well I can see you doing that if you get into it. I may wind up doing the same however like what others have said about the ORX is how they like how the ORX has the search format and settings they use mostly. I kind of fall into one of those type of hunters. I looked and you can buy the Deus pod or remote for 850.00 new. The whole ORX cost less than that. I was looking at the Deus myself but man is it pricey and used ones hardly pop up. The ORX are hard to find pre owned as well but I did get one that has only been used 2 times for 625.00 shipped. Then they lowered the price to 649.00 slshipped for the new ones the very next day after I got my pre owned one. Just my luck.

Having an ORX made me recently upgrade to a Deus.

They are both really nice detectors.

So it appears that XP Detectors is changing their
Pricing structure basically lowering the prices and adding
More types of packages. ORX coil and relic and an ORX gold
With different coils or coil choice. Same thing Dey’s, Dey’s light
Etc. coil prices lowered too. of course I just bought at
At least I got the free Mi6 pinpointer.
I’m still glad I went with the ORX for me it’s the best choice. A Deus would only
complicate things.
