Sitting here at work, bored silly! Third shift is NOT my thing! I probably wouldn't be asleep even if I was at home (I am a night person), but being here at work bored and sleepy is for the birds! Thinking about puttin my head back on this wall and closing my eyes for a few minutes.

I cut 4 BIG yards today. Took all day long! Some of you country folks know what I'm talkin about when I say "BIG yard." I'm talking acres, and not a postage stamp lot! I forget over the winter months just how much I hate cutting those yards! Ugh!!! That weed eater whooped up on me good today. My arms and shoulders are in some major pain. They would be anyway with the problems I have, but not being used to doing that much in one day just yet is a killer. My hands are actually kinda numb - still! I'll get used to it soon, but for now - OUCH! Got to cut my own grass tomorrow after I go home and sleep for awhile. We have ACRES to cut too.

Going to Amish Country early Saturday morning and looking forward to that. I really enjoy going up there! Taking a friend who has never been before. :)

On Wednesday I will be leaving to go on the annual school trip (science class) to Gatlinburg! Can't wait! I look forward to that every year! This year and next year might wind it up. The science teacher that does these trips every year is planning to retire, if he doesn't change his mind. We will be gone for 5 days, Wed - Sun. I will have to get back in time to work 3-11 on that Sunday. :-( That trip is always soooooo much fun! I usually go to G-burg 3-5 times a year and I never get tired of it!

Didn't mean to bore anyone, I'm just tryin to kill some time before I go crazy here...

You are making me sick , I have not went to Gatlinburg in two years and I miss it bad. I like taking drives in the mountains and just seeing GOD's creations. As for the yards we have alot of big ones here. My neighbors yard is three acres.

Ramble on. I know what you mean about acres! I cut grass in 3 counties yesterday. Good thing I have a 60" commercial mower!
You are coming to Amish country aye. Good I will drive 5 miles south and meet ya!
Have fun in G-burg.
OH amd WAKE UP! :lmfao:

Lisa, I'm a bit confused. I thought you were a teacher? Now you're talking about working third shift. What teacher works third shift and cuts acres of grass??? I really need to get to know you all a lot better.

Close to myself, DK and Goes4ever is an Amish area. Berne, In. The ones to the south of town are very conservative, no tops on the buggies, no electric, not even kerosene stoves and dolls without faces. The south side doesn't have much contact with the "English". Great, great food. Great cheeese. Outhouses at the local stores. I've been diagnosed with skin cancer so can't spend much time out in the sun. Mowing in the rain ins't what it used to be. LOL

Love your rambling posts, Lisa, and whenever you want to do so please do!!! I did my shopping yesterday walking, walking and walking in a huge Super Store and I was soooo tired and hurt so badly that I just toddled along like an ole woman of which I am! :heh: After putting away all the cold stuff when I arrived home and retired for the night, I woke up sore and very achy! Oh, by the way, I has such lower back pain that I could hardly move to reach and get what I needed (I'm a shorty) and had help from a few people when needed! I, also, had my prescriptions filled, so now I am good for probably at least another month!

I hope and pray I am well enough to make the trip in May to Cuba, MO, to close the sale of my home and get what few items I have there! Cliff and I were going to make trips and stay while getting ready to move into it, but with his illnesses and mine, we never made it! Therefore, I am staying put where I am for now anyway! Hope you can quit the motel and get a teaching job, and I know through your desire and prayer in Jesus' name, God will move on your behalf, for He is good and it is His will that we have the desires of our hearts and the job you need in the timing of His plan for each of us! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Gah, Travis! Didn't mean to make you sick! ;-)

We just sold our 60" Gravely mower last Saturday. I'm back to the two 46" Cub Cadets. :-( Nah, you know I'm talkin about Amish Country in Tennessee!

Well, Martin... you just need to read things a little more closely!!! Where have you been while reading my posts??? This is something I mention from time to time. Let me clue you in...

I AM a teacher - but I am not teaching RIGHT NOW. I had to take a break from teaching a couple of years ago to help take care of my parents during a bout of health problems they were having (and still ARE having). I teach (when I have a teaching position) history & social studies, grades 7-12. Besides all types of history, social studies CAN include; economics, government, political science, geography, anthropology, genealogy... and a number of elective classes. I have been searching and praying for another teaching position but have not been able to find one. Teachers and programs are being cut instead of being added/hired. Education is in bad shape. During the time that I have not been teaching, I have been working at Holiday Inn Express as a front desk associate, relief auditor, and guest relations manager. I work three 2nd shifts per week, and two third shifts per week. Had to have a job of some description to make ends meet while not teaching. So why not just teach instead of the hotel? In the beginning of my parents health issues, I had to be free during the daytime hours to take them to doctor appointments, etc. Couldn't do that if I was at school all day. I was actually working a few hours at the hotel even before I left my job as a teacher. I was picking up a few hours there since I had two kids in college! It was a few extra bucks to help them out (my kids). When I had to give up my teaching job, I stayed at the hotel and just went full time there - but with hours I could work around and still help my parents.

My parents are STILL in poor health and need help from time to time, but they are better than they were. I DESPERATELY want to be teaching again!!!! And I and looking - constantly - for another position and waiting on the Lord to open the door. In the meantime, I am stuck at the blasted hotel. As for the grass cutting, I/we have done that for several years during the mowing season (which is MUCH longer here than where you live). During the summer I/we cut grass during the day. In the early spring and through the fall I/we work around other jobs to cut grass... in the mornings, afternoons, weekends, or however. Only a couple of years ago I also had another part time job on top of teaching, the hotel, and grass cutting. I was an Instructor for the ATV Safety Institute, teaching the hands on training classes for people who purchased new four wheelers/ATV's. Yes, I rode four wheelers as part of making a living. Awesome job! I did that for a little over 17 years on the weekends.

We are working people, Martin!!! I've worked all my life. When I was about 10 years old I started working in the fields of a big truck farmer who was a family friend. I worked in the fields every summer until I was 17 years old. I was in band while in school and stayed busy with band and work - all the time. My parents owned a lil country store (yes, the kind where the old men sat around the heater playing checkers and talking) and I worked at the store doing a little of everything, even pumping gas. When Tim and I got married, I went to college and worked at a sewing plant for about three years. Had kids and took a short break from the work force. Went back to work at Camp Sumatanga on staff there for about 3 years. Started substitute teaching - subbed during the day and went back to school at night to finish my teaching degree. During the summer I still went to school at night and assembled four wheelers & motor cycles during the day. All of this, and taught the four wheeler classes on the weekends (for over 17 years). Taught school for several years. Now at the hotel. I stay BUSY, Martin!!! Not afraid to work, and not afraid to get dirty. My whole family is like that. My son works 80 hours per week and is trying to finish up at Jacksonville State University... and also has a full time girl friend. He almost never sleeps. My daughter is in college too, and works as a patient care technician at a fancy assisted living facility in the memory unit. Tim has some health issues, but most days manages to work from daylight to dark with heavy equipment, and/or working with his buddies doing construction or other jobs. My parents and sister have always been this way, and all of Tim's family too. No slackers here!!!! LOL

I think that oughta bring you up to date on the work issues.

I NEED some rest, Rick, but it doesn't come very often. lol

YES!!! The food is WONDERFUL. This particular Amish community is the Old Order Amish. Very conservative and mostly poor. They do not believe it is acceptable to have power, phones, etc. I enjoy going up there and try to make the trip a few times a year. :)

Wish this one was only 20 minutes away!

Did you say Gatlinburg????? I LOVE Gatlinburg. Will somebody tell 7centsworth that his wife REALLY wants to go to Gatlinburg for her 30th birthday? We usually go in the fall when the leaves are gorgeous! Love to visit the local Amish as well, although most of ours are not old order. Many of our Amish have cell phones and even have land lines. Seem to become more progressive all the time.

Lisa I pray you will find a job soon. Teaching is def not what it used to be (is anything?). When I graduated high school, I had a full scholarship in voice and piano....I actually ended up turning it down because I knew I would be limited in finding a job. Things were starting to go downhill in the teaching profession here even back in 98-99. Our three local elementary schools share one music teacher :( I would never have gotten a job.

You need to take a couple of years off to rest and renew your body, because it will wear out and Tim's too! I know as I started down hill in my 40's, then 50's, really felt it in my 60's, but now I feel like 100, but haven't reached that age, as yet! I think I feel that age if I were a 100 years would feel, but most likely will never make it! My mom and dad worked very hard during their lives, but died in their 70's and Cliff and I worked on the farm and he died at 72 and I've made to 74 (almost 75) but don't know how long it will be until I go back to God, Who gave me life! Your parents have ill health by overworking their bodies! The old saying is: You can't burn the candle at both ends and expect to have any thing left to use! SOOOOOO.....slow down and enjoy life while you can and when your older you just might not be able to do much like me! Time is too short! Hope you get that teaching job that is the desire of your heart! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

We have real Amish just down the road! Come on up and I'll prove it! Then there is Indian just 30 miles down the road. Amishville everywhere!
Just don't ask where the Yoder's live! Because it is every other house for miles! :lmfao:
