Just recieved my new Explorer II

Ordered my new Explorer II from Kellyco and after 12 longs days on the UPS, I finally recieved it today. I was out in our back yard in between bad rains storms. Had a great time but going to have to get use to learning those tones. Many of them sure sound alot like. It sure is obvious to me that those icons they display (coins/rings) sure dont represent the target accuratly.
All and all, I look forward to my learning cure and finding some nice coins.

Hi Kalvin
You can change the sound of the tones between targets using the variability option, which is under the tones section of the Audio menu.
As far as the digital mode goes, I use it when I am hunting for gold jewerly. I will load a program and run in advanced smartfind, then when I hit a good sounding target I will switch to digital to check too see if it is zero O = GOLD.
The Explorer gives you alot ways to check out targets 1. sound or tone of targets, 2. smartfind, 3. iron mask, 4. digital. The Explorer keeps surprising me with what it can do, I have learned alot by reading the forums, books, and watching a DVD. TB

Tom,
Thanks for your input. It is a rainy day here and I am watching my DVD and will re-read my manual today in hopes of a break in the weather to get out and do some detecting.
My first find was a spent 30-06 shell. Wow!
This is a great forum and look forward to posting my finds.
Thanks again,
Kalvin

The book Mastering the Minelab Explorer XS & S written by Andy Sabisch is a must read for learning the Explorer. Andy has a way of writting that is easy to understand and gives some step by step examples of how to program the Explorer.
Before you know it you will be creating and saving programs like a pro, and finding some great stuff. Learning the different tones that each coin makes is great, you can be hunting and hear a faint tone and know what coin it is befor you dig it.
One program that I learned from Andy's book was how to create a program in the learn mode by scanning my coin collection, then I saved the program in the save menu. The next day I went to an old site that most people have gave up on due to being very trashy, I loaded my coin program and pulled out alot of coins. One coin was an 1896 silver dollar, I also found alot of 1920's dimes and quarters. The best thing about it was the explorer ignored all of the trash, because I programed it to accept only coins. I am going to go back over the site next time using a jewerly program. The LEARN mode is worth the time it takes to learn it. TB

Tell me about this CD. Did it come with the Explorer? Is this an intructional video made by Minelab. I e-mailed The U.S. office and they indicated it was the same as the Explorer video on VHS. And by the way, If you don't have Andy's book, you need to get it. Good luck, and God bless.

My Explorer came with a Minelab produced instructional DVD. Apparently the buyer has the option of VHS or DVD. It was helpful out of the box but I it is very basic and not of much use after a few times out with the detector. I'll order Andy's book next time I place an order for accesories.
