Just sent my deleon in!!

Stoof-tabsallday

Well-known member
So a couple months ago I got my hands on a deleon with the troy super 7 on it.
It seems to work well, but last week, I mailed it of to tesoro for a once over, tune (in case it was never properly tuned for the troy), and some cosmetic work. They said they'd contact me for anything costing more than the $50 fee to have it looked at.
I'm pretty excited. This combo of deleon and troy, many say, is a very good pair. I just want to make sure it's operating to its fullest. It was sold in 2003 to the original owner and most likely never needed to be sent in.
Very well used, so someone loved this detector!!
I was worried not having the warranty from buying it used, but for the price I got it for with the super 7 troy, I couldn't pass it up.
Rusty has assured me that I will receive it back working like it's brand new (or better with that coil and being tuned for it specially).
Funny, I never knew that some detectors need to be internally returned for different coils, but it makes sense. On detectors with factory set POTS inside, they are tuned for the coil originally on it.
I'm excited for my new deleon to come back!!

Your in good hands over there at Tesoro no matter what others think. My
Silver Sabre U-max is going in this week as I just talked to them Friday.
Bought this cream puff off the bay a while back and it needs a good
tune-up as I know someone was fooling with the pots inside as it is
falsing. Tried other coils but no go. I know they will take good care
of her and she'll be like new. Never sent any of my Tesoros in that
didn't come back working like new and cosmetics fixed up. Top notch
is my experience. Have used many Tesoros with the Eldo.u-Max
being my favorite and I'll never let that one go as Rusty did a great
job on her when I first got it many years ago. Wish you the BEST with
the DeLeon. One Tesoro I have never used. Tesoro will do you right!!!

I haven't had one for awhile now but I had great luck when I did use one. I keep threatening to pick one up again but you know how that goes. The Deleon doesn't have manual ground balance so when you do a coil change, they may not match up to the best performance. Good luck , they are a nice , easy to use outfit.

Thanks all.
@bleeohio that's exactly why I wanted to send it in. Without full external controls, things are lost and sometimes gained by something as small as a coil change. But I'm confident that teamed with this infamous coil and properly tuned, my DeLeon will be great!!
@silverseeker2 this is my first time sending in a tesoro product but the support and knowledge I got from them about my compadre when j first bought it as well as my conversations with them and rusty to date have been great and very helpful.
Just to clarify, nothing is/was wrong with the compadre. I just spoke with their techs about it at length.

Seeing that it's the only one you kept and all you tried, I can sure believe it!!!

A couple parks and my dad's property once.
Been ok. Lots of trash and some clad. No silver, gold or jewelry :-(
Hoping they pay for themselves.... eventually lol.
But I'm still learning my machines. Pretty much digging everything that's not really low iron, so must just be there's nothing to find... I dunno.
Updating my signature now with my name lol. It's Stefan (like Steve Urkel when he gets out of that "suave" machine on family matters lol)

that's great Stefan that your getting out there, there's no hurry but like any activity we get out of it what we put in to it for the most part, I still learn stuff every time I go and remember stuff I have forgotten, for me its more of an art than a science , but the science is important , but in the end I think its a feel thing, you know you can paint your own picture and its perfectly imperfect, just like us, we can only be us and detecting really is just me being me.

I cant detect like you and you me and that's why there is a lot of heated debate on here sometimes as people do not understand that no one will ever detect like them or me them.

sure I need help understanding the basics that do not change (science) the rest is pure art , so grab the science and go paint your own picture

ok so I push the limits of how I see it but I detect like I detect and I do ok and I try make someone anyone detect like me and they tell me to p$ss off , why?? cause they have to paint their picture, so all any of us can do is share our experience and give back a bit and let others take that and make their own style.

so my point is well done and get out there and have some fun :bouncy:

Thanks AJ!!
Yeah the upside is I have permission from the head of the parks and recreation department of a neighboring city to freely detect in the 30ish parks there. Just finding time. Luckily I have the summer off of classes, but like everyone, still work.
But compared to both school and work, it will be like half days!!!
I can't wait to try the Deleon when it returns.
I did go to a coworkers house over the weekend with all my detectors besides my deleon which was sent on Friday and arrived there today! !!
But being that he's new he went for the 350 since it had the display lol. But I messed with my relic for a bit but kept getting called to where he was.
I ended up just prong mine away and grabbing the compadre to double check his finds while showing him the 350. But his property didn't have much trash or anything lol.
He had fun though and so did i. Sometimes teaching is also learning if that makes sense.
Like I said I'm still learning all my machines and this is my first season/year in the hobby.
Haha maybe I for took many workout learning each first but the way I see it, that just means I can reddit the same parks with different detectors:)

that's great news Stefan 30 parks some time and how many detectors  recon you will be right for the summer :wiggle:

good your mate was interested good to have someone to have a hunt with from time to time !!

from my experience no one detector finds it all and so I need more :lmfao: not really but I am sure I can find room for 1 more right !!

a saying I like is the more I dig the luckier I get  and some days are better than others.

but I think spot is key, if after rings etc.. hit sports fields and some sites take multiple visits to get a feel for what's going on there and they all have a life of their own its strange but true.

anyway I can ramble  have fun that's the main thing !!

yep recon the D with the 7" concentric will do you well.

Haha that made me think of something my dad said when I was young and it can be changed to almost exactly what you said...
"Your chances of finding a job more than double with filling out your first application"
"Your chances of [finding treasure] more than double when you [dig your first hole]"
Haha. And they keep going up the more you dig!!

Deleon likes the Micro Jewelry, just found a thin Necklace with small charm with the Deleon, Dig those low numbers

Well I just heard from tesoro.
The coil is WAAAY out of tune he said and they are returning it included in my initial payment to have it looked at.
They gave me options about a new housing and upper section, but the cost was too high with labor included. It would have put the total cost the same as if I bought it new But wouldn't have the lifetime warranty :-(
But what I am doing is having the coil drilled out for new hardware and getting a new mid pole and lower coil pole and new hardware. Also had the screws on the faceplate replaced and having them put new knobs on. So it will still show its age as far as the upper section (but in good condition anyway) and the faded look of the control housing. All in all not bad and when I receive it back it will be like a new machine in function and in essence a brand new troy super 7 coil!!!
Can't wait!!! It seemed to function ok but now it should be a killer!!!
Just goes to show that sometimes when the detector seems to be great, it can be better.
:)

I have had my Cibola sense new 6 years ago and thought I might sell it and buy a new black one, why? pure vanity :bouncy: still does what its meant too housing is just a bit discoloured from being out in the sun too long.

could just toss it in the bin and get a new one it owes me nothing

but I will put my vanity aside and when it doesn't work any more get a new one the CSC hanging off it is worth more than the detector so count my blessings hey

wise choice is what I was saying :clapping:

AJ

When it doesn't work anymore, you send it in because you have the warranty!!!

it works fine its just been well used and looks like a well used detector I want a new shinny one , but its only vanity that wants a new one

bit more of a drama for me here in Australia to get Tesoro work done , costs more , takes longer and well hence in reality they are throw away items after adding up the costs , like a compadre its a no fix item for sure brakes I fix myself or its spare parts, as the price goes up its a toss up as what to do.

most expensive one I own is the O and its what 600 probably to buy one here, I have more money invested in coils than detectors , so yeah tune up's would be nice but really all I use them for is for items from 0 to 5" shallow coins and hunting gold , if I am hunting deep stuff I use the CTX , I like Tesoro's because they are simple, light and find modern shallow coins and jewellery and they are good at it, and I can sell and get 60-70% of my money back what's not to like.

for me tune up sounds like a bit of a con job to me they either work or they don't if something is broke then fix it if its working use it.

but having said that if it was a cheap adventure I may send a detector in if it was clearly not working as it should.

but just get out and dig man that's where the fun is :bouncy: not forking out cash. they are just tools and I buy what I need for the job.

AJ

Well in my case it was the coil that was out of whack and needs to be rewired I guess. Not available anymore so the only option is to have it redone.
Plus for me it's not expensive to send in.
All in all they said that even changing coils and bot tuning the detector won't necessarily make it not work but won't work to the best of its ability.
Considering the coil on mine isn't what came on it, the detector needed the insides tuned to it anyway. So in the end I get a "new" unavailable coil and get my unit tuned to the coil.
Really excited to get it back!!

you are lucky I still have a craw in my throat about Tesoro and them not fixing my CSC and the whole process costing me 150 $ so they are not on my top 10 hit list , in fact I found the service very poor and I do not recommend them as a company to be dealt with from outside the USA.

we have a saying about that sort of thing here which I wont repeat here .

but when a company sells a product and then a person sends it back out of their own pocket to be fixed and gets told we do not fix this product we made any more and here is your bill to get the unfixed product sent back to you.

like I just explained to a fella on the minelab forum sometimes you have to use the stick and I am waving mine right now.

Jack would be turning in his grave on how I was treated he understood what made a successful business and in the age of real time feedback treating one person like crap can mean many lost sales.

so it does pay to be open and honest about as a company what you can and cant do and well Tesoro do fail at that miserably.

I have been in contact with the dealer here in Australia about some Tesoro spare parts and they are even struggling to get what they need from this company , Jack built Tesoro on customer service and now he is gone God rest his soul , the place has taken denial to a new level, they really need to hire an independent advisor to come in and give them an unbiased report on their business practices, they may get a very rude shock.

like their detectors but as a company they probably should only sell to the US market as they are not equipped in the skills required to run a world sales team or financially secure to run a world wide business and keep happy customers that is not in their skill set at this point and until they change they will not get any new customers if there attitude and understanding of what they can and cant do changes in to reality.

its very sad for me to watch a great product butchered by sales and customer service incompetence to its of shore users.
