JUST WONDERING---WHATS YOUR FAVORITE DETECTOR:shrug:

C.J.M.

Well-known member
SO,many detectors out there so far not a perfect one, but maybe one just around the corner:clsoedeyes:i can see bulgarian detectors and coils are really gaining on usa detectors. The blisstool detector is sure making a great entrance in this country.
whats your three top detectors today vintage or new ones?

My favorite detectors have been the Minelab's. I've owned several Garrett's, Whites, Tesoro's, and Minelab's. There's been many good ones but the Minelab X-terra's are pretty much the best value for ability of any detector out there. I see the French XP-Deus is coming on strong and, for the price, they're going to give the top of the line Minelab's a good run for their money. The beauty of the XP-Deus is that they are totally digital and cordless. NO WIRES! That's nice. Maybe the American companies will take the hint and come out with their own wireless units?

I have only used a few but I really like my minelab xterra 70. I had a xterra 50 also and bounty hunters before that. I also have a garret ace 250 well my daughter does. But for me it is the xterra 70

The Australian Company, Minelab, recently introduced the CTX3030 detector.

It is wireless and also waterproof to ten feet as best I can recall. Something like that depth anyway.

I have always used Minelab detectors and have no experience with any other brand, so I cannot compare really.

I am happy with my Minelabs and, when it comes to detecting gold in Australian soil conditions, you will rarely see any other brand.

My sons all use Minelab's, as do other family members, with models ranging from several XTerra models to Explorers, Etrac's and GPX 3500, 4500 and 5000's.

You will not have to be too perceptive to see that we all vote for Minelab's.

Yes! The Minelab CTX3030 is wireless (at least the headphones are. It still has cables inside the detector shaft). The new XP Deus is not only totally wireless, it's $600 dollars less expensive than the CTX3030! I love my Minelab but I think they're pricing themselves out of the market. $2500 is a lot of money to plunk down on a detector regardless what you're going to hunt! And, as already stated, I love my Xterra but Minelab leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to customer service.

I'd have to say:

1) The Explorer series (I've had both an XS and now the EX2)
2) Garrett AT Gold
3) White's V3i

The V3i was fantastic, but I had to put it below the ATG because the price at the time was ridiculous. Plus the learning curve was awful. (Sorry everyone, it was). So far my Minelab's and now the Garrett AT Gold have been the best detectors I've ever owned.

I have had so many over the years - Garrett, White, Fisher, Tesoro, Bounty Hunter, Minelab - many different models. I really can't say which is best now. Some that were top of the line would not measure up now. Some had different uses such as the Fisher 1280x and Whites Beach Hunter ID. Like comparing apples to oranges (water machines to land machines).. Some have done well for me and I have a love for them because they were great producers at the time I had them (so still miss them such as the Garrett GTAx 1250, the Garrett Master Hunter BFO, the Minelab Explorer II). Some were not ideal due to weight or bouyancy, battery type and life, etc. I can't even compare the new Garrett ACE 350 with anything because I have yet to use it. So depending on the 'moment' in time my favorite has changed for one reason or another.
At this moment I can't say what my favorite is...I do know that my favorite will be the one I find easiest to operate, lighter in weight, with decent longevity of battery life and above all is the best producer at the time. Keep in mind the machine is only part of the equation...if I take it where there is no coins or relics it won't produce. It all depends on the operator to know his machine and to take it where it is most likely to produce. Just my opinion.

I've only had the experience with two different detectors the Tesoro Vaquero and the Tesoro Tiger Shark. I must say the Tiger Shark is my favorite. It hits small jewelry so good, I'm amazed.
I would love to try some of these other detectors listed, I wished someone rented them out.

does it really punch down as deep as the Explorer?
Neal

I use the Minelab Explorer for the deeper stuff and a Teknetics G2 for shallow stuff being masked by iron in places like bulldozed city lots, plowed fields where houses sat at one time and an occaisional tot lot or beach when I just like the ergonomics and weight. I can swing the G2 all day even with tennis elbow. I have not really tried many new machines like the F75ltd, Blisstool, Deus, Ctx3030, GTX5000 and all I know is what I hear about them. I mostly hear that they have slight advantages but nothing that is leaps and bounds over my 15 year old Explorer XS. Convince me that one is a leap in depth or separation at depth and I will consider buying one but another 1/4 inch in depth is not worth paying $2000 for.

WHITES, WHITES and WHITES XLT Spectrum, which is still my favorite or was if I could still go :detecting: Well, maybe God will bless by helping me to go find those goodies again! Amen! Ma

Wireless detectors???? Now that is modern and up to date like Desktop and Lap Top Computers! No cords to tangle or break! WOW, now that would be neat!  Ma

minelab has really cut back on which detectors to fix .The last i heard they stopped with m/l explorer ll.Anything below an explorer ll was doomed:thumbdown:i guess parts are hard to come by.
