You know I took out the x 70 today for an hour or so for the first time since I got it a few months ago .... I bought it from a friend who needed money. but I never tried it ....
I have been using an explorer for ten years and never really needed to try anything else .... But I;ll tell you this little guy was impressive!!!!!
It was light and easy to handle.... and the recovery speed was wow !!!!!... I mean like lightning !!!!.how fast compared to the explorer... and the TID was fast too... boom a signal and poof theres the TID... so much different than the exp ....
Was finding clad like rite off the bat ... I mean clad was not what I wanted but where i was hunting thats all the coins you would find , I was looking for rings at this abandoned camp ground from the 60,70 80.
Pinpointing was a breeze with the 9 in coil and man did this thing pick up some small targets .... I mean tenny tiny ones !!!!!
I think I will have to play with unit some more !............. I kinda like it ,,,
I might just have to keep it and sell off one of my three explorers ...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:smoke: Welcome to the best kept secret in detecting.

There are a few of us that have both and Xterra and an Explorer, and believe that they compliment each other quite well.
The Xterra is so light, reletively simple, as well as very flexible and capable. I can't imagine selling my 705.
At some future period I may replace the SE with something else, but it will have to be a good deal on something enough better to be worth the trouble.

For now, neither is going anywhere w/o me.

That is one of the reasons why I still have my X-Terra 705, it's the perfect unit to go along with my E-Trac.

i m thinking the same thing .....how come nobody told me this before ????? LOL great little unit as of today

I have the Xterra 70 and have had the 705. I still favor my low serial ## 70. With the 10.5DD it is a depth demon!!!! I too just bought a Etrac and I have yet to get out and hunt with it. No matter what machines I've tried, I've always come back to the Xterra 70 for relic hunting.....MO

Hey let me ask you guys who have been using this x 70 or 705 ... the unit i have came with the 9 in mf coil (concentric ) I dont really like concentric coils.... i would like a DD coil.... Which one would be better for my type of hunting ,,, i hunt for silver coins mostly ,,,, not a big fan of pull tabs ,hence i dont find many nickles or rings ,but i might need to re think this thought ,,, any way which coil do you all find the best for both ? if there is such a thing !
lf ,mf hf. and size ?

I would stick with the MF Coil like the 10.5DD. If you hunt a real trashy spot, just slow down and listen for the high tone to ring in.....MO

I also have a xterra 70 with a etrac that i purchased last year. I have found that i have had more fun using the x70, but have not given up on my etrac.

They do come up for sale on the forums and if you can find one new, they are worth every penny. I have the 7.5 and the 18.75 kHz 10.5's and I would not part with either one!!! Good luck and enjoy the 70...........MO

I agree with Mo. But just for the sake of education check these articles out.

And I would highly recommend that while you're at the MineLab site you sign up, Then download Randy Horton's free E-book "Understanding Your Xterra", and read it several times.

I recently bought a new Sovereign so having fun. However, Monday I took out my old X-70 with the 3 KHz coil and quickly reminded myself how glad I was that I didn't sell it. Ohhhhh, the sweet sound she makes when it detects a dime or quarter!!!

I know my 705 will not be going anywhere anytime soon! It is a great machine and I agree that it is overlooked!
