Knocking out new pennies.

David

New member
With an Explorer SE or E-Trac, would I have no trouble to knock out the annoying new pennies while still picking up and digging the old pennies at the same time??

(That's what I want as just about all machines on the market cannot tell the defference between old and new.)

I am in Canada so our new and old pennies may be different than the new US Zincs and old US Coppers but the same question applies to both countries.)

I don't know about the Canadian pennies, but if you discriminate out the modern US zinc pennies, the Indian heads will get shut out also. At least the ones from 1864 on...
Many coin hunters have found the IH pennies at 3 inches and less, so the depth is not a reliable way to tell them apart. If you are on a site that is old enough to have IH cents, then you better dig all those 07-25 signals. Even if most will be the zincs.

Canadian cents read higher than even our copper cents for some reason.. so I doubt you can knock them out and not knock out other cents and maybe even silver dimes.. too bad they didnt make your cents out of iron like the rest of you new coins.. that would take care of them..

Even though I am using the Explorer XS, all the Explorer Models are very similar and you can't reject Zinc Pennies since the Canadian Cents will read like a Zinc Penny and also, you will loose your Indian Heads, Gold Men's Class Rings, and your Canadian Fishscale 5c Silver Coins. You will even loose your Deep Thin Silver Dimes like worn Seated Dimes or what have you. You could pass up the shallow Coins if you know for a fact that the area you are hunting only has Deep Keepers and no surface Keepers but if there was any turned over soil at your spot, then the Oldies could very well be near the surface. I just dig the Zinc's because if you don't, eventually you will have sites that are loaded with Corroded Zinc Pennies and eventually you will have to dig them just to remove them when you could have done it before and actually used them for spending money. So you can't reject the Zinc Pennies or you will definitely be passing up some very good Targets. Hope this helps and Good Luck and HH to you up in Canada.
