Large coil for Explorer SE, which one?????

Doc P

New member
I am contemplating buying a large coil for my Explorer SE to use in ghost towns and other "picked over" sights. I have been looking at the Excelerator 16" and the Coiltek 15" WOT coils. I read Bryce's review on the Coiltek and now the quandary, which one to buy??????

Can anyone shed some light on the (2) for me and make recommendations?

Or, would I be better off with the SEF butterfly coil from Excelerator? I think that it is a 10x12 that I was looking at.

Thanks,

Jay

coils you might want to also evaluate the 12X15 SEF and not the 10X12. Why waste a 20% reduction of area coverage per sweep with the 10X12 vs the 12X15? Unless you are a well conditioned youngster I would think you ought also consider adding a Swingy Thingy to you tecting tool box no matter whose large coil you choose. Let us know what you decide and how you came to your conclusion. I'm sure many of us face the same quandry. Jim

Thanks for the info. I will consider the 12x15 in my ever expanding quandary of which one to go with.

As far as the well conditioned youngster, I am not well conditioned, but, in between youngster and gumpy old man. But, then again, I ain't no Spring Chicken anymore either........lol

Thanks,

Jay

SEF....the SEF is at least as good as the new Minelab Pro coil and covers more ground.....I have not found the WOT to be as good as the Pro coil.

I have used the 15" WOT on both the Explorers and E-Trac and it works very well for it's size and is light for a 15" coil.It is deep and loves to hit coins on edge.It is a tried and true coil that has been around for quite awhile with many satisfied users the world over.Just my take,Ray.
PS. The one I use is very stable in my soil here in SW Missouri.

You cant go wrong with the 15 inch WOT coil or the 12x15 SEF... I have both.. The wot coil is lighter but i have been favoring the 12x15.. It has been sniffing out a ton of deepies for me:thumbup:

Thanks to all for your responses. As it looks right now, I am leaning towards the 12x15 SEF coil. I appreciate all of your feedback!!

Doc P...Unless you want to Popeye your right arm larger than your left, take a long look at the swingy thingy! JIM
