Went back to the local swimming area for a water hunt on Saturday. Working a part that I didn't get to last weekend. Decided to hunt a little deeper than last weekend (waist deep). So this was the first real hunt with the control box completely submerged. No problems with the machine below the water and used the pinpoint and iron audio regularly. Of course it's a bit more difficult to see the display below the water and you have to hunt more by tone. One thing I did notice is that the unit has a little more buoyancy with the control box submerged -- that is I had to make sure the coil was close to bottom on each sweep. Not a lot of pressure required here but if you don't pay attention your coil may be a few inches off bottom. I'm using the stock 5x8 on the ATG and the larger coil might counteract this a bit more I think I need to order one of them.
Well targets were pretty thin but at one end of the beach I got a solid signal running in the 80's on the VDI. There is no question when you get a good target with the ATG. Dug the scoop in and recovered a large 12gm silver ring with stars on it. So far that's four rings in three water hunts with the ATG. I think I may have to head back today and try again.
I previously have hunted this beach with my Excal which found it's share. I would say that the ATG is finding an equal share and I don't seem to be digging as much trash.
