Late to the party. Omega 8000

I just took ownership of a version 4 omega with the 10x5 dd. I have a T2se and a goldbug Pro already. I use the 10x5 on those machines as well. I have this omega primarily for coins in yards and parks this time of year when the woods are grown up and the crops are in. I’m hoping it will compete with the t2 in these situations. Any tips? Is that 10x5 as hot on the omega as it is on the t2? I’m able to run the omega in my house and in my yard which is a great sign as all of my machines experience emi in and around my house. Tesoros also. After all I’ve read I expected to not even be able to turn it on! I will take a series of quick hunts with it over the next few days...

He has used various versions a lot over the years.
(Should be tests, tips, and comparisons on youtube.)

Monte is on a big WTHO right now---should be back Monday.

I've had my Omega 8000 V6 for about four years now, and it's a great detector. Sensitive and stable in the field, with accurate target numbers. I have the same coil as yours. EMI is sometimes there, but if you keep the coil close to the ground, that minimizes it. ("Coil close to the ground" is a good idea, anyway.) You've got a great detector.

Cheers,

Joe

I have read many of Montes posts regarding the omega and all the tek line really. I love my T2se, I don’t always connect with it right away but when I do it’s a very impressive machine and produces good finds.

I was able to stop for a short hunt after work. I chose a yard in my neighborhood that has low emi and a variety of trash types. I GB’d at 57 with the 10x5dd. I have left many foil range and nickel range targets here along with iron over the past several months. I’ve dug most of the good clear signals out already. I wanted to see how the omega sounds vs the t2 in this familiar setting.

First off, comparing the ergonomics to the s rod gold bug vs the Cadillac feel of the t2, the omega feels like a great union of both. The pistol grip prevents a rolling motion in my wrist at the end of a swing that is apparent on s rod tesoros and the gold bug. Not that it matters, I just notice it. With the 10x5 it feels excellent, lighter than the t2, better swing than the gold bug.

I experimented with a few different settings. Mainly with notch and sens. I only used d3 tones. There’s a lot of foil and can slaw here, I wanted to see how notch quiets my hunt in that little strip of yard. It did just that, without the pops and clicks of normal disc like I’m used too. I’ve never had notch on a machine. I was very pleased to be able to run at 90+ sens here and it was only chattery when digging. Once in motion, quieter than the T2se when cranked. Let’s just say I love the tones, they have a great quality to them that I really enjoy. The iron tone is more like my gold bug, less fuzzy than the t2. Its not as fast as the t2 from what I can tell this soon. I haven’t dug a coin yet but was more about seeing it work in aluminum trash. It has many of the same mannerisms as the t2. My deepest find was a brass backing to some kind of lock, about 2” square, at about 6” deep. Gave a solid loud 84.

Now a couple questions. Why is 99 Id showing on several targets in the lower range? Like foil and nickel targets will for example go 55,57,99,99, 48, 41,55,56. Even occasional low tone in there. Is 99 indicate somthing? I backed off sense to 60 then 50 and it will still show 99 sometimes.
Any additional coil recommendations? It’s my dedicated coin hunter. I’m thinking 8” concentric. Read a lot of good things about it.
I also experienced some wrap around on iron targets. I then would pin point and get a solid iron grunt when releasing pin point. A t2 trick for big iron.

I want to get along with this machine as I feel it really rounds out my FT collection. Time will tell how productive it is.

It’s a keeper. 2 silvers and 2 wheats today in my own yard which I’ve run all my machines through that I’ve ever had and also has pretty significant emi. The omega was not quiet even at 50 sens which is expected. I don’t think they are as bad as people have said over the years. Yeah emi gets to it but it’s been finding me coins all stinkin day.

I am on my 3rd 8000 and they flat out love coins. Version 4's are more emi prone then the 5's and 6's, but I found my version 4 to be a bit more deeper. Their modulated audio is real telling. Crank your discrimination way down and enjoy the ride. HH jim tn

It’s just a clad destroyer. It’s ID is great and solid. You can easily call the coins, square tabs, and beaver tails by the number. Even with nails around. I’ve been using as high of sens as any site will allow, disc at 16, notch foil, screw caps, and tabs. Leave in iron, zinc, on up. D3 tones. It’s not an overly deep machine, at least hasn’t been for me yet. I have a tendency to grab louder signals as I primarily relic hunt in shallow target scenarios and am accustomed to the jump of a shallow target. I did manage a copper penny at 7” today. Measured with my pin pointer. It had a solid repeatable high tone and solid 83-84. I’ve only put in about 10 hrs on the omega after using exclusively the T2se in 2019, except 1 hr on the vaquero and 10 or so with the gold bug pro.

The t2 will still be my choice for deep coins at this point. In boost process with the detech 13 it’s amazingly deep on small targets. Shotgun brass at measured 11” my last time out with it along with equally deep can slaw, lead, and bent nails. And the deep stuff sounds loud.

I’ve been wanting a larger field coil for the gold bug pro, the omega gives more reason for that coil to double as a park/large yard coil. I’m thinking cors strike. That size coil really seems to wake up a g2/Greek machine. I have smaller coils for trashy spots.

Coin hunting as a primary objective is new to me but I want to get good at pulling coins in public places during this time of year when everything’s planted and over grown. Trying to challenge myself and make some good park finds. I have never pulled a silver or anything from a park....because I rarely hunt them. I know the best stuff will be deep though. Our parks are old and still used a lot.

I used and paid for the Omega V4 and Gamma both in coins and jewelry finds. The stock coil on the Omega was good, but lacked the depth of the Nels Sharp shooter coil and the 8 inch stock coil on the Gamma. The 8 inch coil could be the best for the Omega. I liked the Omega better Gamma, but the Gamma found all the Jewelry. Maybe it was luck, but I think in part it was the 8 in coil which I used only 2 weeks on the Omega before trading both in on a different machine. CG

Will that 8” concentric compete with a 10x5 dd tek coil on coin depth?

The 8 inch coil was very close if not better in my ground. The 5 by 10 concentric stock could no keep up with either. I did not try the 7 by 11 coil, but wished I had. JMO

Given my current experience with the cors strike on this machine, a stock dd sounds enticing, I just really want more depth and coverage. I really thought the strike would work well and it is impressive on the gbp just not the omega....like at all
