This morning as I awoke the word 'offended' would not leave my mind. Something about that word just bothered me. I knew when Jesus spoke the Word, people were offended. A search of my electronic Bible (eSword) brought up the word 'offended' 14 times in the New Testament and 5 times in the Old Testament.
If we think about what God's Word is to us. The Word is 'good' (1King2:38 ), 'a lamp to my feet and a light to my path (Psalm 119:105), it is 'pure' (Psalm 119:140), 'true' (Psalm 119:160, John 4:37), it has 'power' (Eccl 8:4), doing the Word makes us 'strong' (Joel 2:11), it has 'authority and power' (Luke 4:36), 'hard' (John 6:60), 'Truth' (John 17:17), 'cannot be broken' (John 10:35), 'God-breathed and profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Tim 3:16). These are many of what the Word is or can do or is to be used for.....yet people become offended.
Should we not be joyful? Thankful? and more...
Here is something else the Word is:
Heb 4:12 For the Word of God is living, and powerfully working, and sharper than every two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of both soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge of the thoughts and intentions of the heart;
I think it would be a worthwile study of the Bible to understand why people become offended.
Going back to the parable of the seed planting and the weeds choking out the Word...(Matt 13:7) we know the seeds that choked the Word were planted by 'an enemy has done this'.
If we become ofended for the Word sake, become offended in Him, let us look to see where the enemy is that has planted the seeds of discontent and destruction and let us remember:
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Have a blessed day
