Lets try the depth thing with the SE - V- XSII one more time.

Too many variables and the first 2 to come to mind mineralization in the ground you hunt and operators ability or perhaps disability...plus many facets too many to mention...

stable at higher sensitivity settings. I have been experimenting with auto sensitivity with good success though so I'm happy with my SE. I prefer conductive sounds though so I may not be experiencing the same type of problems as some of the other hunters. I don't get hardly any nulling if I use auto sensitivity and don't feel I lose any depth because I'm able to run a higher gain as well. I'm new to the forum but not detecting. I just found out about the forum and think I'll enjoy it.

I have found that if you drop the Gain to 6 or 7 . I like 6. It will quiet your machine down a lot and soften the deep tones.
I would stay with manual Sen. and run it as high as you can without chatter or chirping.
Conductive or Ferrous makes no difference. Its all in what you like.
The idea is to find the settings that let your machine run as quiet as the old XS or XSII. The SE might be an Explorer but it has been tweaked to the max. Now its up to the user to learn how to set it up to suit your personal preferences..

What do you think is causing the depth difference that some say they are experiencing?

I asked that very question. SE coil verses EXII coil. The answer I got was the SE coil is wrapped tighter than the EXII coil and less apoxy is used to make it lighter.
If the coil is your problem then order the EXII coil for your SE and you should be happy again and have no problems.
All Minelab coils are interchangeable.
