Little advice please.

I am new and live down in Florida. I plan on taking a trip to East Central Alabama to do some MD'g. My question is, tips on hunting in red clay. Nothing like we have down here. How will it affect the depth on my Safari, do I swing slower, etc. I know I will need a sharp digging tool. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bunker

Get a Lesche Predator

Safari will work fine, now with all that fine jewlery lying on those beaches why would you want to hunt in Central Alabama? Just remember you can only find what has been lost so wor out your sites in advance. Set up your machine basedon your targeted objects. Fresh batteries an go for it.....

Good luck, rub some of that clay on the back of your neck to keep from getting sunburned...

Thanks for the reply. I am going to visit a friend and their parents own a family farm. Been there a long time and have an old home site that I would like to dig around.
Hit the beach and an old park today and found my first Merc. What a rush. In the last two weeks I have found 92 pennies and all have been memorials, not one wheat or Indian. I'll just keep sweeping!!

Bear in mind that copper is rapidly corroded in salt water as is zinc so your not going to find many older pennies on the beach.

When you get to AL ask the folks where the picnicked on the property and where the may have sat and played games etc. Lasrge tree;s at the base to lean against, any swimming ponds,

Transport youself back in time and think where they wold hae walked and where most activity took place, Buggy loading, horse mounting, demounts, All are good locations.

Good luck!!

A little more advice, please. I expect a new safari tomorrow or Sat. I`ll be using it probably 90% on the beach(I live at Manteo, N.C.). Since the box isn`t waterproof, how do I keep salt mist out?

Thanks EDJCOX for your input. I have been thinking about that as well.
For Sandrat, I purchased a cover with a plastic window on it to place over the unit. Seems to be doing ok.
Went out and found my first Wheat penny. Hard to see the date. The back is pretty corroded, can barely make out the "one".

Get the vinyl cover for the electronics and use saran wrap at the battery gasket end. I use mine in mist / fog and light rain. I tried under a golf umbrella once but I was a hilarious sght trying to balance it all. Give up if it rains hard...

Keep in mind that lightning likes you and your detector so again give it up if it's out there.

Swap it all down after a beach excursion with a damp sponge to get the salt mist off. WD40 is great and provides a protective coat.. Easy does it, lightly...
