Loaded question

New member
I am new to detectin and would like any advice as to where to go(loaded question here) to start out lookin? I have been reading this forum and really enjoy the comments. Y'all seem like a nice bunch of good ol red blooded Americans!!:usaflag: I am not sure if this is the correct forum to ask the question but thought I might give it a try. I live in Georgia, not to far from the Atlanta Motor Speedway(that might be a good place to go and "look" around). Any advice would be appreciated.

metal detecting is allowed. Their is so much to learn Nascar but it comes easy as far as learning the rules as long as you use common sense and keep asking questions. Their are some mighty fine folks on this forum that can give you advice on where to start, heck one of our members has written books on it, his name would be Ed, you'll know him because he looks like Santa Claus but lives in Florida ;)

Your gonna have fun Nascar with your new hobby plus you live in the great state of Georgia where there is a lot of old history, it's gonna take a little time Nascar but that's half the fun of it, learning, digging and finding, I'm in Alabama but from Wisconsin but grew up in Southern California after I was born in Brooklyn New York

Keep posting your questions Nascar and just wait for the replys, they will come because I know all of these fine folks and they will finally see your post once they put down their beers and wine glasses

Welcome to the forum, General Ray

But you have to do your research, research, research !!! You have civil war camps, roads, battle sites.
Then you have early settlements that date back to the revolutionary war. I'd join a local detecting club and dive deep into the library of your community. Talk to old timers about old swimming holes, picnic grounds, race tracks, fair grounds, anywhere groups of people would congregate in yesteryear. OLD churches and homesites (especially cellar holes) are terrific places to look. You'll eventually train your eyes to see these places that you never thought twice about before. Look for construction sites of old roads and sidewalks............I could go on for an hour. Go to the library and look for any kind of book that chronicles your local history, I'll there is a book written in there just for that.

Good luck.

I'd avoid the the speedway, too many beer cans and bottle caps. :beers:
