Loading and changing programs

Well I received the Deus yesterday and I wanted to experiment with making different program changes. My question is how to do that without affecting the coil. How far away does the coil have to be. I just want to play around with control unit while reading Andy's book and making different changes, nothing I want to save ,just want to get comfortable on my couch before I head out. I know I am missing something simple here.

Why you worried about affecting the coil? Am I missing something here?
Once you turn the Deus off it resets everything to default unless you save a program.
In that case there are extra slots to save programs, the default programs cannot be overwritten.

Best to have the coil nearby to make adjustments, you will not mess up any of the factory programs 1 thru 10. If you make changes to the factory programs, once you shut off the remote and restart, they return to factory settings.

If the coil is near the control box, it picks up all the EMI and metal in the house, I am wondering how far away it must be so this does not happen when I turn on the control unit?

I have done this just to play with the controller and get to know it better. At different places in the house it would still pick up the coil at maybe 30 to 40ft away. So what I do is put the coil in my garage or my pickup truck at 40ft or more. I even had tried to put the coil down stairs in the basement and it sill picked it up. Just make sure you have nothing that the coil can pick up or it is far enough away. I have loaded some of Andys programs this way and then later paired up the coil and controller and tried them out. Everything worked out great. I have also taken just the controller to work and left the coil at home and loaded programs. Works out too. What I like about doing this is you will get to know the controller better without the noise or worring about damaging the detector. Hope I helped. Bob

Dont need to move coil away, just turn off the speaker function on remote....No noise and you can push buttons all day!

There are some settings, which are only available with the coil, therefore playing around without it may be an incomplete experience.

I think only the freq changes requires the coil to be near.......
