Lobo and super traq

KVM2

New member
I saw two Lobo metal detectors on the Flea Bay.. One is a Lobo, the other a Lobo Super traq..How good are they, is one GOODER than the other? Have a Compadre, silver UMAX, and Vaquero, I really don't want one of these.........do I? Thanks for your comments...Doing an air test with the three that I have on common targets. has gotten quite interesting....

I don't think that in general hunting either Lobo will do anything the Vaquero will do. If you had heavy mineralization I think there may be a difference. Hopefully someone else will give you more definitive information.

The LST has a better ground minerals handling capability and has Auto GB.
The Lobo is the same as the LST but with Manual GB

These detectors are better suited to All Metal Mode gold and relic hunting.
Their Disc Mode is Basic but serves well as a coin shooter. They detectors will operate on salt beaches but the sensitivity needs to be reduced to maiintain stability. The ground minerals selector is very usefull in allowing the detector to operate in a wide range of mineral conditions. The Black Sand selection results in significant loss of depth but allows the machine to operate over black sand. The Vaquaro is a nice detector and I am not sure you would gain much by including the Lobo's in your collection unless you are likely to hit the gold fields and like the auto GB feature.

Another thing to note is that the LST will need to be retuned bt Tesoro if a different coil to the stock standard coil is fitted. (So I have been told)

Just an opinion, not Gospel

As Fishers Ghost said, the Lobo Super Traq is the newer of the two machines, with auto ground balancing and tracking. It is built from the coil up as an All Metal Gold Nugget hunter. If you have a Vaquero, and do not hunt gold nuggets, you don't need it.

I am a fan of Tesoro and this video bothers me. I do not like what this implies

We never get an idea of how fresh the batteries are in the Lobo, plus I did not see him ground balance the Lobo, even in a bench test you need to GB your machine, and the fact that the BH went deeper in DISC than in all metal seems counter intuitive to the way a metal detector should work, so there are some variables that lead me to believe that the results of this bench test may be a little skewed. I may be wrong, and if so I repent.

This test is bogus! First, he has the sensitivity maxed out - a huge no-no with the LST on smaller targets. He never ground balanced the machine - yadda, yadda, yadda. I have found One-gram gold nuggets at 8" with the Lobo Super Traq.

Cannot take much notice of those comparisons.
The coils are different one is DD the other BH is concentric. The Lobo is 5 x 10 and the BH looked like 10 inch round Concentric??
The 5 x 10 DD will by the very design get less air test distance than a 10 inch concentric.

The test figures I think painted a good picture for the LOBO and you can be certain that the LST will get much better in ground depth than the BH due to the excellent Auto GB feature and ground mineral selector.
The two detectors are completely different to each other and as such the tests are pointless

Just an opinion.

IMHO, air tests are mainly useful for comparing different coils on one machine using the same settings or for comparing to a previous test if a detector suddenly seems to have lost signficant performance.
