LOOKING AT 305 0r 505 ?

I own a Fisher F5 , looking at 305 0r 505, I have really bad soil here F5 handles it no problem, will either one of these Minelabs handle it? And do they have manual ground balance Thanks. And which is closest to F5 in characteristics?

I have never used a Fisher F5 but I own an XT 70 and my soil is what I consider pretty mineralized. I have found that I need to run a DD coil in order to get my sensitivity up above about 18 (30 is max for the 70/705). I believe that both the 305 and 505 both have manual GB. Hope that helps.

My first response was to tell you to get the 505, as it can use the 3 kHz concentric coil. But when I read you were hunting highly mineralized soil, you'll likely need to be using a DD coil. So either the 305 or 505 will handle the mid and high freq coils. The 10.5 DD inch at either 7.5 kHz or 18.75 kHz, is a super deep coil. The small 6-inch DD is a coin killer and is an 18.75 kHz coil. Excellent choice for hunting areas where target separation is a must. Both have manual GB. The 305 offers twelve "4 digit" notch segments and the 505 has nineteen 3-digit notch segments. More notch segments allows for a more accurate TID. Take a look at Minelab's website and you can make a direct comparison between the features of each.

As to comparing it to your F5....... I had an F5 after they first came out. That's all I will say...... I had one. JMHO HH Randy
