Looking for a civil war camp

I have found out that our town got its name from a general of the union camping here with his troops . I have no idea where and have done all kinds of research and could not locate where it is . So I decided today I was just going to start detecting the fields and try to locate it. It may take me a few years but I will find it if it is there. I started this field today close to a small creek and within minutes got a bullet signal so I think no way sure enough it was a bullet just not what I was looking for. I found about 20 modern bullets in this field and a few doodads. No civil war relics yet but it is a start.
