Looking for a PI that's quiet under salt water

Do either of you know if the claim that the later machines were de-tuned at some point is true ?

I was told that at some point the cable was upgraded but then at a later date the detector was de-tuned for better or easier use in salt water with a mono coil.

I tried a near new model in Italy just before Christmas and it seemed much more stable but then I was a long way from any EMI which I can't manage back home.

Brian,

Not sure myself. I remember reading something about a software update at some point, so maybe that change was to make it more salt water friendly.

I bought one used, and only have a new 10x14 mono on it, which has the thicker cable. I have found that for me, the 10x14 mono is by far the best in the wet sand and salt water.

I am not sure if mine has the newer software ( if there was ever such a thing), but I do know I have to set it up differently on certain beaches vs. others due to either EMI or the salinity of the water.

All I know is, it's deep and hits hard on gold and nickels and that's all I care about when beach hunting.

How about being some what in the loop.

Certainly I have done enough modifications on the Whites PI's to know what has been done to them.

Eric did design the dual field coil for them while he was working on the TDI for Whites. Whites engineer who did the PI Pro, worked under Eric in England, while Eric instructed them in the proper way to make the TDI.

Enough for now. :)
