Looking for an imaging system to find a 24k breadbox in around 60 feet of water

A pirate buddy has put me on the trail of some serious loot that may or may not be there anymore. I'm willing to invest $10k and some time into the venture but need a good underwater imaging system to track this item down.
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

My cousin owns an underwater imaging sonar company called Blue View Technologies. Its an amazing way to look under the water for objects.

I am looking for a target that is 24k gold and the size and shape of a breadbox. It is a woodenbox that is filled with rolls of 24k gold wire and it is at a depth of around 60 ft. and covered with between 2 and 8 feet of sand.

Thank you for your responses,

A camera system may work, but if it is under sand, and the sand is "flat" you will not see it. Is there any iron in / near the box. A towed magnetometer is a good way to go. If not, you can try to tow a Pulse 10 or 12 (JW fisher) along the bottom.

No iron, except for the nails in the wooden box that the gold wire came in, so for all intents no. A magnetometer won't work, otherwise this would have been recovered long ago. It's been down there for 50 years.

Maybe an all-metal towed detector (Pulse 10 or 12). You may be able to rent a unit. Do you have the search area narrowed somewhat? I don't know what the laws are there, but you may be able to use a mailbox to clear the sand. This isn't a great approach because you will be blowing a lot of holes in the sand. May not even be allowed. Are you sure it is there from research?

Hi BDA,,,,My last 5 years on the police dive team I operated a 40K $$$$ underwater sidescan sonar,,,,www.marinesonic.com ,,,,It will not penetrate the sand so that type of sidescan wont help you and when I retired they wouldnt let me keep it,,,Bummer,,,,,I will call my buddy there and see what he says and get back to you,,,,,Norm
