Looking for anyone in Southern California (San Diego region)

Hi All!

I am coming to San Diego area in the next week or so, to be working there for several months. I would like to find some local places to detect or do some gold prospecting. Is there anyone on the board here who would be willing to show a fellow detectorist with an Explorer a place or two to go? Maybe hunt a place or two?

Thanks, if you are willing, you can email me at dennisjwynne@yahoo.com

Well there are many miles of beaches to detect on. Around Xmas there are some great low tides that will expose the maximum amount of beach. The same will happen a few weeks later in January.

Here is a link to a tide table that will help. Just select La Jolla or San Diego Broadway and put your dates in at the bottom.

As for gold, the nearest place to find the elusive yellow metal is about 1.5 hours away. Our gold fields are highly mineralized and are better suited to the Minelab GP series. Plenty of gold has been found with a VLF but a GMT or Gold Bug type machine works best.

I am new to beach detecting but have been hunting gold successfully now for a few years. Send me a message when you get to town.

I live in Michigan but I buy Spanish cobs (mostly copper maravedis) from a guy who digs thousands of these each year in southern California.

I don't know exactly were he hunts but I do know it's in southern California near the old Spanish Trail. He finds these cobs (some are gold) in a farmer's field.

Maybe this will fire up some interest?

Best to you..
