Curious about getting a water detector and not looking to spend much and know even less about water hunting. Mostly a land hunter here but will have chances to get out and do some this year. IF I enjoy it I'd upgrade but just don't want to spend alot until I'm sure I can first invest enough time for a better unit and second to know I want to do it! ANY help would be greatly appriciated!!

check all your manufacturers, MOST companies make a good water detector and if you go cheap......that is exactly what you will get.....a cheap worthless machine and wasted money. A good used machine may be your better choice.

You can use a Land detector to hunt in the water, just be careful not to get the control box wet. That's what I did when I first got started in the water (hunting in the first few feet). I used the coins and other things I found in my early days of water hunting to buy my first water metal detector. After using the water detector for a while I used what I found with that to buy what I have been using for the past several years.
Started off with a Garage sale special and Upgraded from there. Now I have a metal detector for coins, and one for hunting Gold, and another for water hunting and wait too get more toys from my finds.
Hunting for coins is different from Hunting for Gold, as is Hunting for Goodies in the water.

you'll get poor results..leaks..just problems that will push you away from this part of the detecting hobbie..Good luck..Oh ya water hunting pays off really good you'll get what you invest back with little effort.
