I saw a picture of a plow and sifter that was pulled behind a jeep on Padre Island before it became a National Seashore.

Warren Merkitch's Beachcomer Handbook. It also has a introduction by Karl Von Mueller. Copy rite goes back to 1976. It has alot of good old info on beach hunting. One of the first books I read about beach hunting. The book has how to build a wet sifter and a dry sifter with pictures. I bought this book over in Houston Tx. from Alexander Enterprizes so many years ago I don't even like to think about it. Call Bill and ask him if he still has the book. His number is 1-800-733-7424 or 1-713-946-6399. Tell him I said Hello. :D: :D:. I need to go over and see him as I haven't talked to him in a long time. Later Jerry aka Tinfoil

Sure! They're called beach carts. Used to use them in California back in the 80s to clear the nails and staples from around the fire rings at the beach, so we could get to the goodies with our detectors. They cleaned the fire pits out on the beach, leaving literally pounds of nails, staples and pulltabs from all the burned pallets etc. The Lifeguards always liked seeing us, and even went as far as allowing us to stay after the beach was closed at night. Now days with discrimination and ID technology being what it is, they're a lot of work and just extra gear. If you got any questions drop a line! I think I've even got a couple of drawings for the ones I built somewhere.

Years ago - before detectors become what they are for water use and everyone was in the water or on the beach with them, my partner and I used one for a few years. It worked but let me tell you, it's harder then the book lets on!

I will try to dig up a photo or two of us using it but since you are only getting a few inches deep, even the cheapest detector will hit those targets.
