There was an article on how to build one back in the the 1960's I beleive it was in Popular Science Magazine. It required a lot of power if I remember correctly as I thought about building it at one time. My father used to subscribe to three magazines back when I was a kid. Popular Science, Science and Mechanics, and Popular Mechanics. I would spend hours reading them. It's funny I can still see the picture of that non-ferrous electromagnet in my head but no longer remember all the details. I think it ran on AC rather than DC the way a true electromagnet would. Good Luck! Maybe someone still has one of those old magaizines around with the info you are looking for!
