I've asked this question every year I've been on line ( 3 years ) so I might as well ask this year also.
Being a guy who likes to be prepared when I go detecting, what things do you keep in you detecting bag / box.
Keep in mind that weight is no issue due to my box is kept in my van / truck.
Heres what I have now.
*Detecting box 14" X 22" X 15" deep.
*Diggers
*pin pointer
*pouch
*kneeling pad ( from garden store )
*extra batteries
*GPS
*Small sifter ( fits in bottom of box )
*Small first aid kit
*3 Tubes that M&M come in ( keeps find seprate so I know where they were found
*Pen and paper note book
* extra head phones
* small coil
* small tool kit.
* two wooden pointed sticks with 100" string ( great for gridding)
Now its your turn. I'm always on the lookout for tip so lets here you ideas
Greg from Mi.

Instead of using sticks and string to do your gridding with, I find it a lot less trouble just to use the little colored flags like the utility companys do. Then you can step off your area, stick'em and commence to swing'in!

I think you have it pretty well covered Greg. I keep a couple things in mine that you didn't mention...
Drop cloth
Sun Block
Bug Spray
Med. Size Can for Trash
Hand clippers and small saw - for roots
How's the shoulder doing?

You forgot one thing........The kitchen sink! I think the only other thing I take would be a small "cleaning kit" that would include a toothpick a toothbrash and stuff like that to brush off that button or coin you found and just cant wait to get home and clean it. I also found that you can sharpen the end of the toothbrash and it works great in the nooks and crannys (sp?) to loosen dirt on relics you find......Aaron

Greg you have come up with what looks like the ultimite detectors bag/box. Good job.... <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)">
I also have your list with the addition of some rain gear, Coat, boots, gloves...
An AXE
I also like to bring along the GPS when you get into a good spot in a large field, a hill side , ect...ect...
Good Job again and H <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> H

them at home depot before. I just may give them a try. The string works well but takes a while to roll up
Greg from Mi.

Hey your post reminded me I forgot to post sunblock, bug spray. thanks for the reminder.
Also thanks for asking about my shoulder. It's getting a little better each day but it sure takes time. If you ever need to have it done DO NOT do it durring detecting time, do it in the winter.
Hey there one other thing I've been going to ask you for a long time. I see you posting and know Mike from Mi. ( my detecting buddy ) talks about you but I'm not sure if we meet before. If we did then was it in a corn field in the late fall when a bunch of guys and you found a three cent coin or am I thinking of someone different?
God bless
Greg from Mi.

I forgot to post boots. thanks for the reminder. They work great for construction sites where it go a lot of mud.
Greg from Mi.

I usually take along a gallon milk jug with soapy water and a towel to clean my hands with, so the next place you go, maybe Mcdonalds or gaining permission on another site, your hands will be clean. Just mark the jug so you don't mistake it for drinking water, done that one time. ONLY ONCE.

I like to have a roll of TP in the box for emergencies. Also when in the city it is really handy to have a wide mouth gallon jug in the car.
Save a trip to the filling station when none of the restrooms are open.

I did find a three cent silver hunting a field with Neal and a bunch of guys a couple years ago. I did not know you were there though.
We did hunt together last season in South Bend - We hit a large grassy area by a new school that Neal put us on. There were about five or six of us and we ended up out at Potowatimi Park. I thought that was the first time we met.
Sure wish the snow would go. HH - Robin
