Lost Compadre's Headphone Connector Nut

SkiWhiz

Active member
I was cleaning up my Compadre a few minutes ago and noticed that the nut on the headphone jack was missing. I use headphones 99.9% of the time but on my last hunt I had my son with me and wanted to be able to hear him so I detected without headphones and the nut could of fell off in the park. Not sure why the nut loosened and I am surprised that I never noticed it was coming loose. I image that I can get a new nut from the good folks at Tesoro but was wondering if there might be something that I could get at a Radio Shack or a hardware store such as Lowe's as it would be quicker, I would have to bring my Compadre to the store unless one of you can tell me the size to get. Thanks! Steve

P.S. The jack in the picture is not the jack from a detector it is just for reference to show the nut that is missing.

Take that thing back to the park and it will find that nut:detecting:

SkiWhiz,

My suggestion would be to phone Tesoro and ask them to send you a replacement nut and while you're on the phone ask for a techy who can give you the nut size so you can try to find a temporary nut at a hardware store until the Tesoro replacement arrives. Keep the temporary nut as a backup for future and the Compadre will then have an OEM nut in case you would ever decide to sell or trade it.
Of course, you of all people would never never do that !

Good Luck !

SkiWhiz,

In my above reply, I forgot to mention, in addition to the basic nut size, ask the Tesoro techy if the nut is Metric or American Standard, Coarse or Fine thread and how many TPI (Threads Per Inch). Actually, world-wide, there are many different thread standards and who knows what Tesoro is using and from what country they are buying.

The Compadre is a great detector but will not pick up a plastic/nylon nut.

Me, sell a detector :surprised: no way. I have another Compadre due to arrive in the mail today and will take the nut off it and bring to Lowe's,etc.

Have you tried using a lower discrimination setting? :)

That will prolly be an opaque nylon nut, so you might want to spray paint it glossy black like the original.
Glad you have an easy solution ! :)

No, but here may be a coin underneath it!

Go to an ACE or LOWES and they will have one even if you take the detector with you which u will have to do. Lowes and Ace hwd stores here in missouri carries enough nuts and bolts to build a car even plastic ones which is what u need I think. shortribs

I too have lost this very nut and was going to try to find one at Home Depot or Lowes, I have another machine to use as sample as well, if you find the size or part number before I do could you please share here? I will do the same.

I took the nut with me at Lowes, the only nut that had the correct threads was a way to thick steel nut. I got the correct one from Tesoro for free and it only took about a day to get here.
