love hate relationship 1817 house!

I just wanted to show you guys a place that I love and hate. This house was built in 1817 and has a rich history . The problem with this house is it was occupied up into the 1990s and there are layers of trash and it just refuses to give up anything much. Ive hunted it a hundred hours or more[attachment 331110 DSCN1052.JPG][attachment 331111 DSCN1055.JPG][attachment 331112 DSCN1056.JPG][attachment 331113 DSCN1057.JPG] I bet and there are litterally thousands of targets. When you swing the coil it sounds like a machine gun going off in the head phones and it has a 50 yard perimeter thats like that. Have any of you guys had a site like this? I have 2 flat buttons ,1 cuff eagle, 1902 barber quarter, pieces of old clock and a couple of other things but thats about it. The eagle was dug from a trash pit when we were trenching. Havent found the privy ,its just been a tough site. I believe this one might just be to trashy and im not one to turn and run from a trashy site I love to pull targets from it but this place takes the cake any suggestions? Its not hunted out because there are to many nonferrous targets shotgun shell, small copper pieces and such that would not be there if it had been hunted to death.

Well turn down your sens to about 50 or less and get that recovery up to 3-4 swing slowly for that fast of a recovery. Or you could get a machine from the turks with the 5" coil and go to town. I use both sometimes the deus just can't work. I also would go into the woods around the house. They may have not been there back in the day. Look for a creek and an out house. Look for broken shards of glass and china. They also had a trash pit away from the house. When you start to hit a lot of iron maybe square nails that would be an old hot spot. Go when it dryer iron in the ground will bleed when wet...

Great tips Low-Boy! Calabash, I don't envy you having to cut through so much trash, but 1817 would be too old to not keep coming back :)

Any old aerial photos or maps of the site? That could help you with trails/roads to/from the house.

we found a couple of trash pits and as far as iron goes its everywhere .Have not been able to find outhouse or cloths lines its just all got so many targets its hard to narrow it down . Its the modern trash thats the main problem I hunt old irony sites all the time and do pretty good but when you mix in the modern stuff well thats a whole different ball game. maybe a turk in my future too! sen 50?

Go on google earth look at the land..you may need a smaller coil like a 5" or get a magnet roller and try and get the surface iron out of the way.

What a great place to explore..
By you pictures and description of the age of the site.
I would say that the tall single gabled part of the house is the 1817 original house.
The back of that part is usually where people would add on and it is the direction of the outhouse.
By the looks of the add-on I think the outhouse is under it.
They were usually about 30 feet or so from the back door.
That would be the reason you haven't found the outhouse.
Ok, that my idea on outhouses.
Now as to hunting in heavy trash.
About the best thing I can say is raise your reactivity, lower the sensitivity, go real slow and pull all of the targets Ferrous and non-ferrous.
Good luck..

you are right the other part is a add on it was 50 to 60 years later than the original house , man that means ive got to climb under the house.

Yeah you might need to do that for detecting purposes too... you'll need to dig a LOT of trash!!
I would start with probing for the privies around the two chimneys and around that end of the house.
Look for signs of old fence and trees lines close to the back of the house and probe along them.
Man I wish I was on that coast to come help you...

Only dig the deep stuff first. Ignore the other targets unless it shows coin.

Turn your audio vol down to say 1 so the deep targets sound soft and it would be cool if you had a smaller coil when I crank up my recovery it seems to be crackle rather then give a nice clean tone

thanks everyone for the helpful tips. im gonna need them on this site.

I would hunt the site,, 18khz, 3 reativity silencer -1, notch 00-79 and hunt away.

This will clean tone up on some of the higher conductors--- signals that are trying to come thru pretty good even though they are chopped-- dig some of them.

Both 11" coils and 9" coils here will help you.

Then lower your reactivity to 2 silencer -1,, same other settings as above and hunt some more,,,,then repeat with reactivity at 1 silencer -1.

In cleaner areas 4 kHz will do with some notch as well. Different notch setting from above though-- you will have to determine on your own.

I would think that it would take him a long time to get the reactivity down to 1 the lower the number the faster you swing. But I think a higher disc and lower power and a freq of 18 maybe the ticket to start to make a stab at finding some coins or relics. Maybe try a disc at about 55 or so and then move higher after you get a feel for things...

I thought it was just the oppposite the lower reactivity the slower the swing ?

Please see page 13-14 of the Deus manual. Reactivity 0 = slow sweep speed. Reactivity 5 = fast sweep speed.
