lower plastic rod stuck on cibola

The lower plastic rod on my cibola is stuck and wont separate from the metal upper part. The release clip looks fine and its in the unlocked position but wont budge.Any ideas how to separate the two without creating any physical damage?

Thanks for the suggestions, I just put it in the freezer, it barely fits. Will try to separate it again after the thaw. Also will try some lubricants, dont have any wd-40 but have some other penetrating oil in a yellow can, the name escapes me just now....

I have used dowel rods sized appropriately to slide into the larger tube and butt up against the smaller tube to apply some force to loosen things up. Make sure the dowel end is squared off and not rounded or tapered. Best bet is to take them apart frequently and clean them all up to prevent sticking (and I tend to not do that often enough).

tvr, how do you remove the metal clip on the upper portion of the metal rod to insert the dowel rods?

Compress it and lift it out. If I can't reach one with fingers, I use long nose pliers ... like the long ones used for removing hooks that fish have swallowed.

OK ... just pulled the Cibola rods apart. I got the clip out of the upper end with my fingers. A little tight, so if a little too tight for fingers, help a little with pliers.
Good luck with yours!
