LTD gets big silver... and a little more.

Have been getting the LTD tuned up for an up coming trip up north with our youngest son and his two hounds. Un-fortunately, good targets have been few. A couple days ago I got the 1900 IH cent and the small 925 silver ring. Yesterday the best coin I dug was the 1911d wheat cent. This morning I decided to re-hunt some of the more trashier areas on this site with the 5" dd coil and that paid off with getting a 1941 Walker half. It was among the roots of a big old oak tree and was partially masked by a tab ring and a couple of nearby bottle caps. I kept getting a mix of tones and the occasional 89-92 reading and when pin pointing the good reading it showed 6," so I dug it. It was probably 4-5" deep. The half appeared to be partially on edge and was slightly under a big root. I had to run with sen of 65 and do a frequency shift as I was close to a major street with power lines on both sides of the street. It was quit stable with that sen setting and with disc set on 7. And, I was running 3h tones. HH jim tn

Excellent informative write up...that will definitely help us on those types of iffy signals...so did you dig the tab ring and bottle caps out of the way, or just snipe the signal through them? I'm guessing you sniped, ...Good Job, Jim!

I guess I kind of sniped through, but the tab ring was about 2" deep and just off in the side of my 4" or so diameter hole. I had removed enough dirt that I was able to get a slight vibration with the pin pointer. The bottle caps were off to the side 3-4." The small coil did it, as I had been around that tree with both the LTD and Omega more then once before with the 11" coils on. HH jim tn

I've been wondering about the pass-ups just swinging the 11"...too bad there wasn't some sort of quick disconnect or switch a guy could throw to make a big coil small real quick in the trash..Thats a real trophy coin ..a Walker Half, in the trash...nice.

Nice find Jim!!

I've had that happen a few times. The other night a friend and I hit a little sidewalk tearout, I got a couple of sheathed with the LTD and he got a merc dime with his Etrac. Went back a few days later and went real slow over an area that looked promising and like you was getting a constant high blip missed in with iron numbers. I must've dug 4-5 rusty nails out of the hole before finally a solid dime signal sounded off and I got a merc, not as exciting as a walker, but it was a nice reward :detecting:

Nice walker jimtn:thumbup: I use the 5" quiet alot in the woods where I can snoop around and under downed limbs,I have also noted it works well in areas that have alot of emi.The foot print is smaller but use it to your advantage....hh rick in mi.

Wow.... Great job. I have dug 2 WLH's since I began MDting and they are the most beautiful coins in my opinion. Love seeing them posted. The 5" served you well. CCH
