Sold it to a guy , musta been 12-13 yr ago, ran into him yesterday, he still usin it, and we goin beepin soon's we can get out, got a big field what was old houses and been farmland for 50-60 yr, looks like gud location, on hill with creek at the bottom, Will post results :twodetecting:
 
Will look forward to your success. I had a 350 about 137 years ago. That's how I got hooked on Garretts..

Same with me, was m first garrett, since then had, ace 100's,300's,150's,250's,master hunters, forget whatall, someday may try 1350 or 2500, not sure, I been narrowin down my detector closet quite a bit, got er shaved down quite a bit now:detecting:
 
Heck...I started with a Radio Shack that beeped on everything, A GTA Ultra 500, a GTI 1500, a Master Hunter Analog, a GTP 1350, a GTI 2500, An ACE 250, an ACE 150 (converted to water), a Master Hunter CX digital, a Scorpion and Infinium. I have also had others, but my Garretts & I bonded the best. :)
 
Unfortunately, I've never really "bonded" with the Garrett's. I like em mind you and they are top notch, but me and they haven't ever really 'clicked.'
It makes me sad :)
 
I'm the same way. If Compass was still in business that would most likely be what I would be packing, along with a Garrett. I used Tesoros for years and loved them until one of Jack's kids pizzed me off then I quit buying any. There are a lot of good machines out there but Garrett is hard to beat for an all around beeper, plus they are fun to use..

Me too. At one time I had 14 detectors then I weeded them out. Only got nine now I think. My buddy Jim Straight has over 20 I believe. I think he has the first one that came over on the Mayflower. :rofl: He'll probably get me for that.

I have a weak spot for the garrett machines, but there were year that I did not own one. But I always kept thinking of them:biggrin: They make good machines, customer service is tops and this forum has the best people.

I also liked the whites classics and xl pro. Compass was always very good to me and hot on small hammered silvers. I love the older tesoro's as well. I still have my silver sabre plus that performs superb on farmfields. I like to use my garretts in the forrest and older tracks in the woods. I recently bought a very nice freedom ace and still have the master hunter cx. One of them has to go on the classifieds and i have to check them out these days to make up my mind.

I also like garretts because tey are solid machines....

You sound alot like me Eric, for all the same reasons. I'm certain I'll come round again to the Garrett line, but for now I've sort of lost faith.

sometimes I have to admit that I gave up to fast on a machine. For now I really want to keep one of the older Garretts I have. I jus took the the freedom ace and the master hunter cx to a boyscouts campground in the woods.

I only tried them with the 3.5x7'' eliptical coil. I think that is exactly what I want to use one of these machines for. I like how John uses his small sniper coils with good results. I have to say that the CX hit much harder with a loud tone than the freedom did. And way deeper!!

I also like the easy feel of the freedom....and it looks so nice...

But I feel that the CX will suit me better while hunting for old coins in trash... any thoughts??

Well, I'm not one to give up easily. I've tried various Garretts over the years, at least one of them giving me some of the best finds I've ever made. Yet, I have never really meshed well with their response suite. Everything else about them I like.
The most recent was a GTP 1350 and I loved it - and cursed it. It was a true love-hate affair.
I recently sold it for a Tesoro Golden, an instrument that has become one of my favorites over time.

However, I remain a devotee of the Garretts oddly enough, and will praise them readily. I know they are good instruments, even if I haven't happily meshed with them.

I am intrigued by your use of the smaller elliptical on the CX, and have also noted John's prowess with them. I have a CXIII GMH coming home from the Garrett Clinic after Hollybobs - and that sounds like an interesting idea. The odd balance configuration of the CX models just might be well offset by the smaller coil.

I have come to the conclusion, over time, that the newer Garretts are at their best in areas without a lot of trash. Or, as you have indicated, with the smaller coils to pick through the clutter. I invariably hunt trashy areas of one sort or another, as that is endemic with the modern pursuit of the pastime. This is probably at the root of my disaffection with them. I may give the smaller coil a try.

Perhaps that will save the CXIII from the sale block and re-connect me with the Green Machines. I certainly hope so.
 
:garrett:I used Tesoros for quite a while, but me n young Gifford=Welll, things just didn' work out, so no more Tesoros, they was OK tho, In fact I have a Stained glass Tesoro Window in their office from what I hear OHHH Welll =I like Detector Pro too and we get along fine :garrett:
 
I was also not sure if I would like the balance of the CX and developed a love/hate relationship with it from the start. I have to say that using the small coil, makes it a lot more easier to love the CX.

In trash, I think a small coil on any machine is a good idea. I know as far as the ace 250, the
sniper makes it act like a whole different machine in trashy or real busy areas.
I know if I had another model or brand machine, I'd want a small "trash" coil for it.
The ace 250 with the sniper coil is pretty danged deadly. And with normal soil, I still get
5-6 inches which is pretty good for a 4.5 inch coil.
 
I have unfortunately fallen down some steep embankments a couple of times with my Garrett going down with me. I got a little bruised and cut, but my Garretts survived the fall. There are a lot of cheaply built detectors out there, which probably would have been "TOTALLED" had they been one of the Garretts. They might be a little heavier then some, but are built tough.
