M6 and swing speed?

I checked out the online manual for the M6 and it suggested a swing speed of 1 foot per second. Is this a trade-off for depth and discrimination, or should I be looking for a different unit? 1 foot per second seems excessively slow to me, but I'm new to the hobby. I'm looking to use the metal detector for land use mostly, as I already have the PI Pro for the surf. Thanks for your time.
