Made a coil steady today!!!

Gaz

New member
I have a MF 10.5" DD coil on my 70. The coil bolt is okay but does tend to let the coil move a little.
I cut and shaped a piece of black plastic I found in my garage, drilled some holes and used a cable tie.....simples!!!
Whole thing took about 30 minutes. Most of that was just figuring out how it was gonna go. Once I sussed it....it was easy.
Steady as a rock now!!

.....Hi Smiffy!!

No hammered yet but my mate has found quite a few with his 705 and same coil.
I've found quite a lot of small roman bronze's with it. What I like about this coil is it's ability to ID iron and also sniff out hammered.
My mate has had groats, pennies and cut halves.

I've got a spare steady I made......if you want it....pm me your address and I'll post it mate. You'll just need a cable tie.

Good job Gaz.

Kellyco also sells a type of them, they call it a Loop Support:

....oh yeah!!!.....they look just the same. Haven't seen them for the XTerra in the UK.
They're some price however!!!!!!....$14.95????......wowzers!

Gaz, I understand you want to keep your coil from moving down but the way you have it rigged with a tie strap is asking for a broken coil thru an unexpected accident.

.....nah Goldy.....can't see it happening.
The whole thing isn't really strong enough to break the coil or stem. It's not really that different from a store bought one.
I'll be careful anyways mate!!

am sure that your idea will help stabilize the coil in this area. My partner and I and others have broken many of the X-terra coils and they
have all broken in the same area.

Thank You for an Excellent Idea!!

Yes that was a common problem. I also broke the 'ears'(the two parts on the coil where the plastic bolt goes through that attach on to the shaft) on my stock MF CC, I glued them with Loctite and extra plastic on the side.

That's what we did too Dave, as we thought the coils wouldn't be replaced by Minelab anyway, we just fixed them better than we got them. But
it is really funny that so many of Minelab's X-terra Coils break in the same location. We not so funny when you have to replace them at $175 ea.

....I've read threads where the same thing happened to alot of others. I think it turned out to be a manufacturing fault.
You've shown great skills in fixing those lugs......good going guys!!
