Maiden Cruise of the 705

Got the new 705 last Tuesday. Put it together Wednesday, and took it in the back yard Friday. Just trying to learn it, Very confusing. Friday night I watched a few videos, read the e-book from Minelab, watched some more videos then hit a school about 4 blocks from home.
Based on what I saw in the book and videos I was able to correctly ID dimes and nickels. Pennys seemed to be a little jumpy but, I think it may be because I was getting a decent mix of copper and zinc. Dint find any quarters this trip but did manage 4 dimes,2 nickels 10 pennys and a nice ring. And one heck of alot of junk that I feel compelled to dig.
I feel pretty good that I didnt swamp the SS705 on her maiden voyage from dry dock.

I saw another post titled the same as this one, now I just feel silly.

There! I changed it for 'ya!

no need for that...looks like you are on your way. Congrats!!!

WTG!! If you don't like maiden voyage, how about shake down cruise, or test drive?? Whichever, I'd say it was a success. What did the ring "ring in" at?? Looks like you are on your way. Keep it up and HH. Bob.

Looks like your first time out was a good one Bill! :clapping:

Any hallmarks on that ring?

The ring came in at a solid 20, 3 inches down. It came out clean and polished up nicely. It looks like it has 10 small stones in it. I can't find any makers marks or other stamping. It is quite heavy though and my wife is thrilled, she has a new thumb ring.
I really don't know my TID numbers yet, so not exactly sure what this is made of.

For your first time out I would say you did pretty good and got your first ring, that's a good sign.

Keep it up.....your doing just fine. The more you use it the better it gets........Whats the ring????...Looks silver GP!?!?

I've been doing this since '72-'73. Lots of silver and rings. This was my first day with a Minelab. I found a 3 diamond band last Saturday with a different brand of detector.
Been wanting to try ML for some time, hope it becomes a lasting affair.

Nice lookin ring! Congrats! I bet your totally hooked now!

I'm not certain. Looks a lot like a silver band but the top looks gold. Doesn't really show it in the pic.
I found it by an old tree that would have been in front of a school built in 1893. That school is gone now and is the playground for the new school.
My wife is going to have it checked at the jewelers.

Congrats on making those finds on your maiden voyage with the X-TERRA. Nice to hear you found some of the information in my eBook useful.
I still dig junk. Not because I always think it may be a coin....Oh, I still get fooled now and then. But you never know what might be hiding under that piece of junk. Besides that, showing a landowner a bucket full of junk always encourages conversation. And in a way, assures them that I will carry off any of the crap I dig, not just the good stuff. HH Randy

Thanks Randy,
Yes the e-book has been helpful. I was getting low tone and high tones mixed yesterday. When I dug them, I pulled a hunk of iron out of the hole, rechecked and found a coin there also. It seems to pay to really scan slow when you get a multi-tone target.
BTW, I moved to another school not far from this one, it has a nice shaded area next to the tot-lot that was loaded with junk. I was picking coins out of all this mess when I spotted the school resource officer across the parking lot.Soon he was making his way my way, he came over and told me that I needed a permit to detect at the schools, just like I need for the city parks. I told him that permits are not needed in the parks any longer. I already checked at city hall but, he said that they had not been made aware of this so, I had to go. What a shame. Oh well, Monday I will check into a permit. If not needed, I will get it in writing from the office to show the officer next time.
