Dug so many 1965-67 dimes and quarters, tons of wheats. But have not gotten a silver coin :(. I mean I have gotten small silver crosses, couple small 14k items. Just have been skunked on coins. Have dug easy 9 to 10 inches. But no silver. But my gamma im quite happy with. It pulling things. Im just frustrated.

Relax! Sounds as if you are finding good stuff...silver coins will come. If you are hunting in parks and recreation areas, stand back & have a look at them as they might have been, or might have been used 60 or 70 years ago (or longer). Look for hollows which might indicate old trees have been taken out, and hunt those areas. Relax, have fun & persevere. HH

Yea thanks. I just like man. What do I got a do. My local beaches are locked down to detecting between labor and memorial days. So found a nice old area of the park. Only little trash. Set sense to 99. And dug them faint signals. Im happy with the performance. And I no if I keep at it im bound to swing over some. Just as much detecting ive done this year. I go out almost daily, weather permitting. For 1.5 to 3 hours. Hitting parks, had 2 beaches, old schools and smaller older parks. Old baseball feilds from the late 50's. Ill keep at it and im bound to get some. HH

You have to remember many detect, Also Last Silver coins made was 1965. So the easier Silver in public places has been found.. See if you can get a private residence that is older..
Go slow in the public places. Dig iffy targets and I'm sure you will find some Silver..

Again your best bet will be on private lands.. But you will find Silver in the places your detecting..

Most Importantly .. DO Not Get discouraged !!!

If any of your hunting areas are fenced in, have a look outside the fence. Many parks have areas that are heavily used and heavily hunted, but an area that is lightly used today may have been more heavily used many years ago. Next time out, stop, sit a minute and just think about what little section of this place have I over looked, ignored or avoided. Get close to buildings, check under bushes and trees, search close to rocks and concrete slabs, and always look for spots where a new bench was installed or something else might of disturbed the ground.

I have been detecting for 4 years. I use a t-2,and an Ace 250. I hunt mostly public places to date I have only found 2 Barber Quarters, 1 Standing liberty quarter. and 6 mercury dimes. 1 Rosie. I guess you just have to be patient. Good luck.

Last year I was searching a local high school football field pretty hard and finding alot of clad. I decided to go out around the perimeter of the fence and found some wheats and a mercury dime. Around the outside of fenced in areas is a good place.

Just a thought, when you do close to fences and swings turn down the SENS to hear clean much closer. Just remember to crank back up when you move away! I have found some good stuff doing this.

n/t

You mention that you are find most other types of coins etc and also silver crosses and small gold items and also getting good depth as well,i am coming to the conclusion those silver coins just are not in the area that you are detecting.

People have not had silver coins in their pockets for 50 years. And people with metal detectors have been looking for those lost silver coins
for over 50 years.

Lots of the easy silver got picked up by detectorists in the 1980s. Its getting harder to come by in commonly hunted areas like parks.

Even those folks who hunt all the time with the best silver hunting machines can confirm that one.

You really need to try to scope out some virgin sites on private property that haven't been hunted before.

And of course, get the owner's permission first.

You don't need a butt-full of buckshot for trespassing.

Good luck and chin up! Good items are still plentiful out there!

ditto what has been already said..........we all went through this when we first started detecting...........if you want to find old coins, you have to first put yourself in that position by finding a nice old spot where they exist..........you need to use your down time to its fullest by doing your research at the library or historical society..........where im at, i buy the local towns historical books they publish and sell..........sometimes you have to spend money to make money..........you already have done that by investing in a detector..........go online and look at the old topo maps in your area. find where the houses were that are no longer there. look for the old churches, school houses ect..........hope this may help some..........i was going to say "best of luck" but its not alot of luck.........you do your research and you will locate those old places that hold the silver you are looking for...........
