[size=medium:wiggle::wiggle:Hello to everyone. I'm back now that winter is almost over. Yes, I've been hibernating and getting mentally ready to find those targets.

]We had cabin fever like everyone and yesterday was the first time we've been out detecting since Jan. 3, 08. Boy, was it nice getting out and playing in the dirt. I had a few good signals and was happy to see some silver. Not much, but it was silver. I found a 64 Rosie and 6 wheat cents plus cute small silver-enamel pendent/charm. Both sides are beautiful, but from looking at the pictures, I should go clean it better. The lock is an Eagle Lock Co. dated 1895......pretty cool. The 46 Rosie was a find from Jan. Larry found something good also :yikes:, and he'll probably post it on the DFX Classroom Forum later.

I sure hope you all are ready to get those coils dirty and find some fantastic treasure for the year 2008.

Nice finds Nancy. I can't tell you how happy I am to see a "regular" back on the forum posting their finds. It has been a long winter.LOL. HH Dennis in Idaho

I second that with Dennis, nice to hear from you two. Your cheerfull enthusiasm always shows thru your posts.
Here on the east coast the temps have roller coasted for about two months. With a little extra digging effort at times ,I was able to get out atleast once or more weekly. Started detecting last September so this is my first winter frustrated by the weather. Found out first hand how anxious everyone is about getting out. Good hunting to you folks and everyone else on
this site!
 
Hey. Wondered where you guys have been.
Looks like you picked up a nice bit of history there.
My MXT is in for repairs; the Screen kept acting up
and either went blank or would show alien looking letters.
Needs a new LCD chip. Should have it back sometime
by the end of next week. Wish I had it yesterday when I
went out to an old abandoned mobile home park with my
Ace 250. The park had already been hit hard but I have no
doubth I would have pulled more out of the ground with
my MXT!!!!!

Did you guys go somewhere for the winter?

Hi Robert, Nice seeing you here again. Sorry to hear your MXT was on the disabled list. One thing for sure, White's won't take long to fix it for you. I don't think we've ever seen a place hunted out. I can't wait to see your finds for this year. Seems like with the new technology of detectors, so many are finding more and more. :thumbup: Sounds like the old trailer park will keep you busy.

We did take a fast trip to New York a few weeks ago to pick up a toy hauler camper. Should say a VERY fast trip of three days! 2000 miles and we made it with clear roads and weather! Other than that....just hanging around and getting bored with the off again and on again snow. Love this Illinois weather......NOT!

Welcome back. The forum has been lonely without you. This was a mild winter here in the South but with the drought we are having and all I mainly concentrated in the wood chips and other areas that are easy to dig in. I found lots and lots of clad and a few neat baubles. Nothing to compare to the cool padlock you found the 1st time out. Way to go! I tried to buy a coil from you hubby a month or so ago, but alas someone else beat me to it. The story of my life

But this is the one we wanted and it was only used twice and in excellent condition. See what happens when you get a bike???!!!! Also a great place to put the detectors. Unlike the boat.

It's another beautiful day. Maybe Larry and I can go find a spot to detect. :twodetecting:

Sorry about that Pete. If it was the first coil that went, it was mine. I couldn't pinpoint like I wanted and I just didn't want to use it. When I want to target on a coin, I want to be exactly right!!! I know they say that coil is the best, but I didn't think much of it. MHO Nancy

Greetings Nancy ! From Gregory, Santa Fe. I noticed that youve been using the MXT. for some years now and as a new MXT. user i had a couple

of questions regarding where you might typically set your disc. and your gain settings if the ground is not too trashy or highly mineralised. Also what coils

are you a fan of . I've been primarily hunting newish city parks in a cherry picking style with disc. maxed and gain at about 10- + 1 . My coil of choice is the

6x10 DD and i'm considering the 4x6 shooter as well. Any advice is helpful thank you ! Gregory, Santa Fe.
 
Welcome to the world of the MXT Gregory, Santa Fe!

If you're mainly hunting city parks, ball fields, large open spaces, etc. I would suggest Jimmy Sierra's Bigfoot Coil. It will clean a field faster than ever. You do loose depth (will get 4"-5") with this coil, but your gain in clad, etc.will pay for itself in no time. The pinpointing on this coil is positively perfect! I included a picture of it here.

Discrimination.....When doing high traffic parks, etc. I will turn my discrimination to 3.5. This will let you get the gold rings also. But when "cherry picking", and only want the higher count coins, I'll turn it to 6-7.

Gain..... If you're only "cherry picking" you don't have to have much gain. My setting would be 6. Now when I do deep hunting for old coins etc., I push it up to 8+.

I'm not a fan of the 6x10 DD coil. I had one, I used it once, and then I sold it! I didn't like the way it pinpointed and I thought the depth perception was off by an inch. We didn't get along!!!

I don't know if this helped any. I'm not a "tech" term user. I do know my machine and wouldn't trade it for any other. I LOVE IT!!!! Good luck and enjoy!
