:pulltab::detecting:I am sure some one has asked this before? I have been using wooden sticks from skewers to mark a find and pinpoint it. Are there any plastic pointed sticks out there and what does every one else do? I guess a person could use a plastic swizzle stick, but that might change the taste of your wild turkey.? :clapping:

Any garden shop will have plastic markers used for writing the name of the plant and insterting it in the pot with the plant to identify it. They are flat, about 6 inches long, white, with a point on one end. Once you get a solid hit, write the depth, and possible target on the marker with pencil. Stick it in the ground at the target area. You can then continue to hunt. When you choose you can then come back and dig all of your marked targets. This is often faster than digging each target when you hit it. It will help you identify what your machine is telling you; in other words, when you come back to dig you will find out how well you guessed the target ID. It also give you a break from swinging.

Only pulled this marking stunt once. Used excavation marking flags from home depot. They are used to mark pipe or cable before we dig. Anyway I would guess at a target and my youngest daughter would plant the flag of the coresponding color [we used 4 colors]. They are also super cheap and great for pranks on friends who love their [ever so perfect] lawns. We ran a row of them through a friends lawn once and set construction signs at either end. It was great he spent at least a few hours the next day in a panic as he called around trying to see who was going to dig up his lawn.

I had read the other day on one of the forums of marking and someone suggested golf tees. Day before yesterday we made our weekly trip to Walley World and I let the wife do her thing and I went to the sporting goods . YEHHHHHHHHHHHH. Just like a kid in a new toy box. Any way I like the "clearance isles" and finding the treasures. LO and BEHOLD there was a bag of 300 gold tees in assorted colors for .75 cents. (and I didnt even have the use the metal detector for to find that treasure). Moral check out Walmart in the clearance isle. never know what you will find

I like the golf tee idea!
They'd work great in a coin garden.

How about using the plastic "pick up sticks" , look in the toy isle. They are pointed plastic sticks of different colors. Kinda like the ones used in the old marble game Kerplunk, just a thought .

I have started using those little plastic flags that the utilities workers use to mark electric and gas lines, or that lawn care companies use to mark lawns after fertilizing or chemical treating...you can see em from a mile away...But, I have not been able to find them except for buying them off a friend who works for True Green Chem-lawn....they are a little wield to put in my carry bag, but you can't beat em for functionality...Someone also suggested to me to use poker chips, but I think I would end up losing them in the grass if I walked away from where I laid them down.

I like the idea of the flags too. I got poor vision and those things really stand out. The are taller than tees too (tea for two?) so they show up better in overgrown areas. People may think you are up to some official business and stay away also. Good time to pull out that construction hat. :)

Overall though, I think I'd rather dig as I go.

Should be able to get the flags from any home depot, lowes or similar store. You could also order them from A.M. Leonard also. You could also use the long wooden sticks like shish kabob sticks or similar then tie the orange flagging like surveyors use to mark stuff on the stick. You can also get the flagging at the above mentioned stores. Me personally, I dig as soon as I have located the target. You never know it could be a trunk of gold and then I could retire on the spot.

I had to laugh reading everyones posts about marking with flags. You see most of my hunts are right after work so I rush straight from the job site to the hunt in my work clothes. Anyway its blaze orange and hi-viz vests/jackets/shirts everytime. I always thought people were extra nice because I am such a great fellow, but maybe they just like the vest?
