metal detector 705 or safari or ?

Hi guys ,
have been looking into these four 705 700 or safari quatro or if any one can suggest a better one.
I am a keen coin jewellery hobbyist I have a gold detector XT1700 MINELAB and i have been finding everything and i meen everything.
my detector will tell me if it's ferrous but i still like to dig any way would like to venture into a detector made for my needs eg Discrimination , Notching out etc..
A serious coin jewellery detector ,
thanks guys any comment's will help
must keep digging. :)..

I can only speak for the 705. You can't go wrong getting this machine, versatile and easy to use with very good features for the price.

Had the Safari and prefer the 70/705. Lighter and easer top operate and performs just as well..........

Unless you're a beach hunter, then it's simply going to be a matter of preference. Both are good machines. You have the multi frequency of the Safari, verses the faster recovery speed and lightness of the X-Terra.The multi frequency handles mineralisation issues far better than the single frequency machines. I haven't owned the Quattro or Safari, but have played around with them. (I do own an SE Explorer though.) I personally prefer the Safari over the Quattro because it seems to have the Explorer's standard tones, which to me, give you better target info, compared with the Quattro. In wet sand, they go twice the depth of a single frequency detector, including the X-Terra. If you hunt in parks mostly, then you'll find that you'll cover more ground with the X-terra, due to it's faster recovery speed, but given that I have an Explorer and the Safari has similar tones, once, over a target, I think that the audio does a better job of telling you what's under the coil, but like I said, it will mostly come down to your personal taste and hunting preferences (of which, you'll have to make your decision for yourself).

Thanks gambler13, morelic55 & Mick,
I would also like to use this detector on the beach it almost seems if possible i should get both, the 705 & safari
Money will not allow this,

Mick you were saying you had the SE Explorer would that be a good pick over the 700,705 are you happy with yours
thanks again for any comments
:) ..

has any one else got some info to aid in my choice
regards,

I would tend to pick the Explorer over the Safari. Mostly because you can adjust it more than the Safari and has a back light, which the Safari doesn't have (the 705 does have a back light). But it still comes down to what appeals to you. Over all, I think the the Explorer is a better detector and if you like hunting silver coins, then I would very strongly lean to the Explorer as it will make telling silver coins real easy. Partly because of it's tones, but also because the ferrous reading for silver makes it easy to tell. The Safari does have ferrous numbers, but you have to change modes to see it (which is only a minor inconvenience). The audio feedback on the Explorer is the best of the lot, but it does take time to learn. ( the secret is to move slowly over the target and listen to how flat or wavy the tone sounds. If you put the 705 into mutli tones, then you get a similar effect, but it's not quite as good as the Explorer at hearing the targets like that.)
Which ever you choose, you will enjoy your detector. The tones on these units are the most pleasing to the ear that I've heard on any make of detector.
BTW. I've found that the X-Terra's are the easiest to learn detectors that I've ever used.

Xterra's rock ! and so do MInelab
Light, easy to learn and use. They are just a pleasure to swing.
you cannot go wrong with the 5x10" DD HF coil.
Mine Xt70 has found me 4 times what it cost me in 2 years.

as an alternative in that price bracket...
Have you considered a Sovereign GT ...awesome depth, great on the beach and for coins.
Its always a difficult choice in the various models and which one to choose.
Good luck

Jeff68,
Mick has got a lot of good input. IF you are considering an Explorer, then find one to handle for a little while. Not for the tones, but for the ergonomics. I have the 705 and an Explorer SE, I prefer the Xterra hands down. I have got a couple of targets with the SE that I wonder if I would have found with the 705, and a couple that I know I missed. There are quite a few in the forums here who really like the Safari. I would not steer you away from any of the above, they are all good machines, I have found the Xterra easier to operate and lightweight. The Explorer has more information available, and has depth second to none. The Safari has the same angle in its handle as the Etrak and is suposed to be easier on the wrist, and if I am correct nearly the depth of the Explorer.

Good luck
Jeff
