Here are some finds since August. A lot of clad but some cool stuff.

Meteorite? Found this about 4 inches deep on the side of silver star Mt in Washington state. This was found on the moutain side, not in any creek. It made the 705 go nuts and pinpointer. Then pulled out my small super magnet and it held the rock up by just the magnetism. So I thought there might be a bolt or nugget inside so I cracked a chunk off. Well inside it has little flecks of silver shiny stuff( nickel?). The ouside has the little black raised dots here and there. Thoughts are greatly appreciated.

I have seen a couple on websites with the same color(rust).

Look up a show called meteorite man or men and see if you can find a email addy and send a pic to them. I watched the show a few time and they just look for them on top of the ground. I didnt see them pull any from the ground that looked like that but you never know.

Grind a section flat and very smooth and compare the spot under magnification to the samples in various websites on the subject. At 10x you should start to see the grain structure.

What is the ring?

Take a look at my post on page 2..."Couple interesting finds..." I thought I had a meteorite too but mine turned out to have little air pockets or bubbles on the outside and inside. I had what appeared to be a crust also and a magnet stuck like crazy. I determined mine was not a meteorite.

Good Luck and keep us posted...rare find if it is one!

This one looks like a definite.....maybe.

If your could grind/cut a flat spot(doesn't need to be very big) and take a GOOD, in focus picture....I'd really like to see it.

My original reason for getting a detector was to go meteorite hunting. I did a lot of research on meteorites last winter, including buying some so that I would know how to recognize a "possible" if I found one. Turned out my "crater" was just a HUGE sinkhole.

Here's a short video of my meteorite hunt last summer:

Please grind not just flat but smooooth, that is where you will get the detail. There are universities that will test a piece for you if you cut a small piece.

If You can scratch Your find on a piece of unglazed ceramic..and it shows red,it is Hematite..that would be my guess, since it is real hard to break a chunk off a Meteorite...HH
