Mexican silver, maybe??

Roland58

New member
Found this today at 6" deep. It was completely black when I removed it, apparently in the ground for a while. It is sterling, maker's mark and .925 on inner band. I should have put something to give a better idea of size, the paper clip is one of the really big ones. The crude settings make me believe it is some cheap Mexican jewelery, however the ring is REALLY heavy! Running the F75 in All Metal Motion, GB 65, Sens 85, Thresh 0.

Have I mentioned that I love this hobby??

Now that is a chunk. It may have cheap stones, but silver is silver. Nice find!!!! HH jim tn

WOW!! that it a whopper Roland, very nice find. You have caught on to metal detecting fast, are you sure you just started this summer?? Nice find hope you keep finding the goodies and making post you have been a good addition to this forum. HH Randy

Thank you, gentlemen, for the kind words. Yep, haven't had my detector quite four months and this is my first. In spite of the warnings against getting an F75 for my first detector, I have had NO regrets and have found this machine to be quite easy to use and set up for different conditions.
I forgot to mention that this big chunk of silver had a VDI of 91-93......figured I was digging a quarter. On a spring type postage scale, it shows to be about 3/4 oz. It is a heavy ring! This makes my 5th ring and 5 or 6 earrings. I'm still looking for that first gold!!!

What a beast Roland, you mentioned you thought it was a quarter cause it hit at 91-93. My ltd shows quarters at 85-86 solid, its darn near 100%.Seems every time i dig a signal in the high 90's it turns out to be big pieces of alluminum or sometimes falsing iron(very deep) What do you recover in the high 90's? Maybe I should start digging those high 90's again!! hh rick in mi.

I don't recall ever recovering a coin with high 90's readings, but silver quarters and (1) halves with depth and on edge or badly slanted will get into the 90's. I also had one large mens silver ring read 92-93. HH jim tn

Ok Jim you said enough,I should pay closer attention to those lower 90's,and keep walking past the higher ones?? Wow the rain stopped, its only 38 deg. right now,but I am still going to give it a shot.:detecting:..hh rick in mi.

Rick, yeah, you are correct on the reading. On the Standard F75 the indicator only goes up to "quarter", however, I have had actual quarters clock in at 88-92. I have never found a half or dollar coin, so, don't know what they will read. I do know that this fat ring chimed in at 91-93 and I will keep on digging those signals!!

WTG Roland, enjoyed the post and comments from everyone.....God Bless all...............HH.........Dan
