I was surprised to know that most of the Grizzly bears were in British Columbia. The islands like Vancouver Island has the tamer type bear, the black bear.
I found it interesting that some people recommend that you carry pepper spray in bear country. Personally, I would not want a bear to get so close that I would have to use the pepper spray. If you are touring British Columbia with a friend on bikes, the best defense against a bear would be to rub sardines on your friend's bike.

are by Black bears, not grizzleys. Although an enraged grizz is about as fierce as anything you would like to see.
Our farrier, who is also a licenced guide, has told me that, when he goes hot., the group works as fast as it can to get the deer cleaned and out. A rifle shot attracts grizzlys. They know that there is no difficult hunting when the prey is already dead.
And yes, he has lost more than one dear to a grizz.

...looks like our province,will really shine.I live only a few hours away from Whilstler.The land values are astrononical in the surrouding areas.If anyone plans to go,Please be carefull on the winding road to the events.They are not dangerous,just other drivers to watch and drive defence.Even on the best summer days,trajic accidents are common,seldom due to rad conditions.For example workers cannot afford to stay in Whilstler,and are forced a long commute.Many have fallen asleep at the wheel.Like I say be carefull if you commute to Whilsler,bad enough for local drivers,I just shudder at new peaple driving a new mountain side road for the first time.Hopefully the major road improvements will keep everyone safe.Great forum and great folks.
