Minelab Explorer SE

Another thought. I talked to Minelab a few days ago and was curious to see if they would give me an answer to my thinking. I was wanting to know if the Explorer SE is a hybrid VLF/Pulse machine and they said yes it is. Since it covers such a wide spread of frequencies I wondered if it was. Isn't this somewhat along the line of what Dave Emery is trying to do with the PD? Or am I being misinformed? God Bless all and thanks.

The original patent for a multi-frequency detector was applied for in 1972. It was a TR-IB. Minelab's own literature classifies their Multis as Frequency Domain, meaning continuous wave, or TRANSMIT-RECEIVE. To my knowledge the only person working on a new generation containing characteristics of both types is an engineer at Johns Hopkins. Do a search and read about it.
If the SE and others were Pulse units then why doesn't Minelab advertise them as such? Instead they have a separate classification for P.I. detectors. Could it be they do not want to be sued for false advertising by the Federal Trade Commission?

Hi Vlad, thanks for the response and I will look farther into this as I am now doing. You may be right. Any way it is truly interesting to learn about the theoretical, physical, and electronics of metal detector devices. Dave Emery's Pulse Devil is certainly keeping everyone on the edge of their detecting seat. I like to read Eric Foster's teachings very much. He has some nice looking detectors that he has made and I hear nothing but good on them.

Ok Vlad thanks for your post and I am going to continue researching. God Bless ya Vlad.

Wirechief,

The inventor is Carl V. Nelson. Look up his name and read some of his many patents related to pulse induction discrimination, and you will be well rewarded for your effort. There is a wealth of PI information in his patents. Some patents are located in the Geotech patent section while others need to be obtained from the Web.

Well hello BB and it's been awhile. I hope all is well with ya and yes I will check out this info from you. Many thanks BB. It's just interesting to read up on the technology of these detectors, both VLF and PI. I will look him up. CU later BB and God Bless.

Hi John,

You may not remember me. I'm the guy with the "Moon-Field Enhanced Metal Detector" a few posts back. You probably came to the conclusion that my post was 100% baloney, but that's not the case.

I have actually been working on a detector that is a "hybrid" one. Very strange that you should be asking about this. Are you phychic?

As pointed out in previous posts, this is not a novel idea, but my version of a hybrid detector is different enough to warrant a patent application. I cut out the moon part so as not to spook the Examiner.

I'm glad to see your'e active on the Forum.

Hi Al and you bet I remember you! I'm glad to run into you again and I have been trying to keep an eye on your invention also Al. Thank you for the link Al and actually I haven't totally discarded the Moon thing myself. Yes a hybrid is a very interesting idea and I am reading anything I can find about it's theory.

I'm really glad you said hello and I was hoping you would be there. When do you think any testing will be done in the field with your patented detector?

Ok Al good to chat with ya and I hope you have much success and I will checkout the link, many thanks and God Bless ya as always my friend.

Hi Beachcomber,

I'm going to be manufacturing the detector for sale. It will be called
the "CoinSweeper". I believe it will have characteristics that are
useful for coin and relic hunting.

At this time I'm working on a different detector, however, the "GoldSweeper", which is optimized for detecting gold nuggets.

The different electrical properties of those targets and the different
environments in which the targets are found make it very difficult to make a "universal" detector that performs as well as possible in both applications...
