Minelab Marketing of the SE

Young songwriter/musicians are often plagued with writing songs solely about their Bellybuttons. In other words, their Bellybuttons are the center of their universe and they have very limited life experience. When a new detector is released many detectorists(including myself), focus on how the new machine relates to "THEIR" detecting universe. i.e. A trashy park hunter could care less about the new machine's saltwater beach hunting performance.

Therefore the early adopters ignore the features that matter not to them, and they whine and carp about why items weren't changed that they deemed most important to "THEIR" universe, which would make the new machine a perfect machine for "THEM".

So you will see many new features ignored and others concentrated on with great delight or derision. It's not that Minelab didn't list them in their marketing material, it's just that the early adopter has given great weight to the particular feature enhancing it's importance above the other features.

Pinpoint is one of my favorite subjects, as there are very widely held and divergent opinions.

1. Some don't use PP at all and think you're a moron if you have to use it and all it does is waste space where a different control could have been placed that "THEY" think is really important.

2. Others like a single tone that increases in loudness related to signal strength. But they either do or don't like the frequency of the tone chosen.

3. There's a whole raft of people that hate the VCO PP, period.

4. In another camp are those who intensely dislike autotuned PP(I mark my X here).

5. Others demand a manual PP that can be de-tuned.

So as you can see a seemingly very basic/simple feature can bring out all sorts of reaction. And the Explorers have an absolute raft of features and settings that will engender all sorts of opinions. We're not talking a new Tesoro Compadre here.

Now I hate to use this cliche(but what the heck), a new detector is like an elephant surrounded by blind men. They all think "THEIR" piece of the elephant is most important. And well,.... sometimes many feel they got the South end of a Northbound elephant.

But if you pay attention, as you seem to be doing, some of these diggers that have used many machines in a variety of locations may provide an important technique or performance tip, that Minelab or it's Beta testers never saw. Those are the gems to be printed/laminated and taken afield with you. The first time I took the Treasure Baron out I felt like I was carrying the Encyclopedia Britannica .
