anyone know about this machine is it better than the explorer xs???

Never used the Explorer xs. I really like the Quattro for ease of operation, depth and function. Some users of both have said it is "deeper", some say easier, some say not as good. I suggest reading the posts on this Forum, the Quattro Forum and the Water and Beach Forum (further down the list of Forums). I "processed" the info in these 3 Forums and made the decision to purchase the Quattro! The Forum's Seach Engine can help! Goodluck!

I don't know yet.My hunting buddy just bought one and we are going to compare.I think probably the only difference is the Explorer II might have a few more functions.

The color is better we know as the white of the Explorer shows dirt so fast. Now for performance I find that it is a great detector and it seems to lock on to a good target real good, but it also has a slower recovery too. I notice it also is a bit slower when switching from the hunt mode to pinpoint as there is a slight delay before you get a signal in pinpoint.
The Quattro dont have as many setting you can adjust which makes it easier to use then the Explorer is, one being you can switch from one mode to another very fast with the Quattro for checking out a target. I found this very usefull as I could check out a target in the coin mode the Conductivity of it, then swith to relic to check out the ferrous of it.
I also found that if i got a good repeatable signal I thought was good, then lifted the coil and let the Quattro reset its threshold then go back to that target I could tell if it was good or bad.
One of the things i didnt like was the tones pitch could not be changed like the Explorer could, the tone of silver was too high pitched for us that have a high tone hearing loss.
To some the Explorer is better as you can tweak the setting more, to others the Quattro is better as you have less to adjust or misadjust and easier to use. Both are great and one is not made to be better than the other. The Quattro is made to be a easy to use FBS detector for those that want to use a FBS detector without all the adjustments
