Here's a link over the new minelab detector.

It is indeed a "revisited" Quattro.

Thanks for posting the link.
It will be interesting to know what is different about it other than a new paint job and coil.

which is an Ebay no no

The Safari is in fact the next model in the Quattro line. It is an FBS-detector which provides users with the versatility of the FBS technology and does so with the same menu structure that the Quattro did. It is not intended to match the performance of the Explorer SE Pro or E-Trac (no surprise there) but it does provide FBS performance with a simpler menu structure for under $1,000.

The one complaint that the Quattro users had was the reset time when passing over trash; i.e., shutdown time. Thanks to new processor power, this has been addressed and now does quite well in high trash. There were some tweaks to get it to where it is and the production version of the software worked very well in some high trash areas when we did some testing with it a few months back.

There are some other minor changes - some obvious such as the color, decals and startup screen - and others that are more subtle - reduced volume on signal overload, reduced startup time, a tad faster navigation from option to option. The new Pro coil is obviously another contributor to the improved performance much the way the Explorers have benefited from the new coil.

If anyone has a specific question on the unit as compared to the Quattro, I'll see if I can answer it

Is Their a back light for the screen? How many target tones are their, and are they adjustable? Are user settings such a sens, disc, thresh, and other misc controls saved when detector is turned off?

Thanks in advance

Im a turf hunter mostly parks , lots , demos etc . On depth and tones how does the Safari compare to my Quattro on coins 8+ deep ? My Quattro gives me a low / high tone on targets 8+ deep . It drives me crazy when I compare deep signals with my hunting buddies who all use Explorer's . Their tones are high crisp squeeks where mine are low / high and real choppy . I even tried the new SE Pro coil on my Quattro and the deep target tones did not change at all . I know there's nothing wrong with my Quattro cause I find my share of good stuff . It just lacks recovery speed and that little extra amount of power to the coil so deeper targets can be herd easier . If Minelab improved these two issues than the Safari is going to be a winner !

Hi Sonny, I think we will see the same person next week lol.... We will have to compare notes on the safari,,

Is it the same physical design as the Quattro or Explorer series? Or did they revamp the angle of the grip, as on the E-Trac? Thanks. HH Randy

Randy . . . sorry, the housing is the same as the Explorer and Quattro; i.e., the shallower angle. The only housing change was the color from Blue to Tan

To toss some humor in . . . the first 100 come with this outfit . . .

Several people have asked some questions about the Safari . . . hope this answers most of them:

1) Is there a Back Light option?

No, as with the Quattro, there is not a back light for the Safari. Only the Explorer and the E-Trac offer that option. The face plate of the control housing is shown below. The controls mirror those of the Quattro.

=======================

2) Is the handle design redone as on the E-Trac?

No, the Safari uses the same handle angle as the Quattro and the Explorer rather than the E-Trac. The photo below shows all three models - Explorer on the top, Safari in the center, E-Trac on the bottom - so you can see the angles on the hand grip.

=======================

3) What exactly was changed from the Quattro?

The one big issue with the Quattro was its slow recovery time in trashy sites. As a result, one had to move very slow or stand the chance of missing a good target in close proximity to a rejected one. This was the biggest challenge that the engineers worked on. Their goal was to minimize the shutdown time using faster processing technology and if needed, adjust the software that processed signals. They were successful in significantly reducing the shutdown time. When running in HIGH trash density. targets can now be picked out easier than withe the Quattro. I believe the new Pro coil has helped improve the performance further but the Safari still did perform better in high trash than my Quattro did with the Pro coil so clearly there are improvements under the hood as well.

Other changes . . . . . Well, I guess I can be a wiseguy and say the color, nameplate decals and startup screen but that's obvious.

The Pinpoint circuit was reworked as well and no longer saturates before reaching the center of the target. The audio is "crisper" and the graphic reacts faster than the Quattro's did. The 3rd photo below shows the pinpoint graphic. It still saturates on shallow targets but lifting it off the ground on these signals will allow for more precise pinpointing.

The Depth indication now updates the indicated depth real time as the coil is swept over a target unlike on the Quattro where the depth indication would update once the coil was past the target. This helps pinpoint targets and separate two adjacent signals.

There was a slight improvement made to target ID stability when hunting Trash Density LOW & HIGH settings, especially on deeper targets . . . . . part of this could be attributable to the Pro coil but I did notice more stability as compared to the Quattro on certain targets. This will help when using selective levels of discrimination since you can block out a segment that is adjacent to a good number and be more certain you will not inadvertently miss a good target.

=============================

The final photo shows the unit itself . . . . . . and no, it does not come standard with a pith helmet (inside humor)

If you have any other questions, let me know . . . my schedule may preclude me from responding immediately but I will get back to you as soon as possible.
