I have had a great experience with the ML service dept. Period. My 705 should be coming home either today or Monday. It checks out and leaves me with my prior suspicions, and that is that the vast majority of my problems are due to EMI. Any others are me.

I am going to start doing some simple experiments to see if I can determine the amount of EMI in the area I will be hunting in before each hunt and see how the machine runs and at what level of sensitivity I can hunt without getting feed back or excessive chatter.

The EMI in various areas can cause problems with almost any detector and the more highly populated an areas is, the greater are the chances of EMI affecting our detectors. When one of my detectors starts getting chirpy, first I look up for power lines, then around me to see if there are possible underground cables and if neither of these, it has to be either someone using wireless Internet, a dog or electric fence or something of similar nature. That is one of the reasons I often carry two detectors with me. If one is having a problem with EMI in a certain area, usually the other one won't be affected as much because they operate on two different frequencies and use altogether different methods to noise cancel.

As we know V-Flex is suppose to reduce EMI a lot.

One fellow told me that his AT Pro is better around EMI than his T2. TURNMASTER(Jeff), how is your AT Pro around EMI as compared to your 705.??

VFLEX does reduce the effects of interference due to the digital signal being processed between the coil and the housing, opposed to an analog signal on most detectors. However, don't overlook how changing the Noise Cancel channel or changing the actual coil (and thus the frequency) can also assist you when you get into an area with a high level of interference. It is the resonant frequencies that induce interference. Not the actual frequency of the interference being generated. As discussed on page 84 in the eBook, in each model of the X-TERRA, the resonant frequency is Noise Cancel channel 0. This is set up in the coil's microcontroller when it is manufactured and calibrated at the factory. The amount that the operating frequency is "offset" is determined by the frequency of the particular coil. Lower frequency coils have smaller increments than higher frequency coils. The 3 kHz coils "step" up and down in increments of .035 kHz. The 7.5 kHz coils "step" up or down in increments of .040 kHz. And the 18.75 kHz coils step up or down in increments of .080 kHz.

I have had some real good finds but at times I have been in places where the pinpoint mode was unusable. I really began to wonder when I answered a post about the wide range I will find nickels ID at. If not for these 2 things in combo I would not have bothered ML.

I have had more issues with my Xterra, BUT I use 10 to 20 times more than either of the other 2. After sending the controller out, I have forced myself to use the AT Pro more and while I do like the machine and am learning it better now, I still prefer the 705.

David as for the EMI the AT Pro is no better, I know that a few of the spots I have not been spending enough time in lately are just plain dirty and my results were no better and likely worse. The SE does a LITTLE better on the one block.

I am encouraged and have really gone back and looked at some of the past finds and a house I had forgotten about and the coins found at 10 to 15 sens.

I Talked with Brian at ML and they did open up the unit and look for damage and loose connections to no avail and the machine passes all testing.

I need to get out in the country for a while.

I hope this helps others.

I have experienced this in the past with my other detectors, some spots are just about undetectable due to this. I thought for sure that there was something wrong with the machine, only to find out that it works fine at another site.My 705 is more sensitive than my detectors of the past, which would make it even more susceptible to this. Heck, we can't even detect under a swing without moving the seat because the field is so big!

Sent control housing out on Oct 14 and got it back yesterday Oct 28. That is 14 days door to door. ML service seems to be just fine to me. Same overall quality standard that my machines seem to have.

They returned my call within a few hours when I fell into the river with my 705 after I left them a panicked voice message. The tech left a message first because I was out of cell range and followed it up with a call about an hour later to confirm I received the message. They provided me with the steps to try and save my 705 and it worked. I could not be happier with them.

I had a problem a while back with the "ears" on my concentic coil breaking. I think this has/had been a problem for a lot of people. I called them about it and got instructions to send it in and had a new one within a week. It was still under warranty and all it cost was to mail it back to them. The new one didn't cost me anything. Was very pleased with their response and service.
