Minelab xterra 30/50 or the Fisher F2??

Which is the best between the Minelab Xterra 30/50 or the Fisher F2 please?.I understand that you guys will be a little biased but please give me the pros and cons of both machines :) many thanks and happy hunting

Better notch capability, more tones, and adjustable Ground Balance make the Xterra a better choice than the F2.
The XT30 is limited to one frequency, but the XT50 and XT305 have a choice of two different frequencies via coil selection.

Gotta say the F-2 is a cute machine, better than the Ace 250, but the X-Terra's are a whole different machine with better features and depth. If Minelab would make a $200 machine, they would sell the crap out of them..........Mark

You make a very good point! The sad truth of the matter is that with all of their technological expertise, they could make an awsome $200 entry level machine but that would probably be like asking BMW or Mercedes to make a $15,000 entry level car.

Cheers guys :) I think I will stick with the Xterra and Ive possibly been offered an Xterra 705 at a real bargain price (I wont say how much but its under £400 British pounds) what is the 705 like please?Happy hunting,Johnny

IMO, it's the best that you can buy w/o getting into a multi-freq machine. The ability to change between three dedicated frequencies with a coil change, along with all it's other features, makes it a unit that I'll never be without. There simply isn't another detector out there that can do what the 705 can.

Cheers :) I like the look of the 705 but maybe I will start with the 30 till i get the funds up ! ! :)Happy hunting guys and girls :)

Buying is a personal decision and there are a ton of variables. I started on an F2 and it worked well. Four years later and I wouldn't have one if someone gave it to me. I have outgrown it. I am very happy coin and relic hunting with my 705 with the gold coil and Digger coil. Out in the wet beach and saltwater the Excal is the way to go. A ctx 3030 would do both pretty well, but its a bit heavy and pricy for me. Money can keep us from the perfect tools and settling for what works. Keep reading and thinking and shopping, but take time to hunt!
Good luck and HH!

Spaceman, I'm an old Tesoro guy, also really liked Garrett back in the day but I just love my 705. I wonder sometimes if I might be passing up any gold but since I hunt in all metal most of the time I don't worry about it much.
Go for the 705 if you can.

As everyone else said, it's a no-brainer decision for the Minelabs. The F2 is a great machine (I love mine) especially with the 4" coil, but with no adjustable GB, etc... not even in the ball park compared to the X-Terra's.
