Mineralization Strength Bargraph

spimly

New member
Can someone explain what the relationship between the Mineralization Strength bargraph and the Ground Mineralization Index is? When I read the description in the manual they sound like they are the same.

In use, I mostly have a value of 90 +/-5 for the Index yet often I don't see any of the bargraph filled in. So I have to believe they show something quite different but durned if I know what it is.

If we compare it to sound properties, ground index will be the "frequency" and strength bar will show "volume". For me mineralization bar is a big help in identification - it perfectly shows hot rocks.

Thanks CD. Fortunately I am not plagued by hot rocks here but I am curious how you use it for hot rock id ??? What does it do when you come across a hot rock?

If you go with ground balance setting below balance point (to increase depth), some stones (but also bricks and pottery) will produce high tone with ID around 96-99 so they will cover highly conductive targets. If mineralization bar is dark (max mineralization) - you have stone / pottery under the coil. If bar remains clean, you have a piece of metal. Checked on hundreds of targets - always works like that.
