Missouri Cold Weather Relics

Hi, All:

We've had quite a cold snap here in Missouri for the last week. Lows sometimes as low as mid teens, and highs around freezing. Fortunately, the ground hasn't started to freeze, as yet. Pictured is the results of eight hours of hunting with the F 75. A brass wedding ring, a harmonica reed piece, two nice dropped .54 cal Sharps, a shot .54 cal Merrill, a shot .58 cal minie, a shot .36 cal teardrop and assorted other shot pistol balls. Hope to get out a couple of more times before Winter set in for real and the ground gets like concrete.

keep on diggin' and thanks for lookin'

Those are some really nice finds. The bullets are really cool. I found one bullet in the sidewalks of Cape Girardeau, years ago... Last girlfriends got it, a baby's ring found in Carbondale, Il, an Old Italian coin 1850's dug in West Frankfort, and ALL of my silver. She forgot to tell me she was taking it. :cheekkiss:

Did you do research to find your sites? Here in southern Missouri, near the Arkansas border, almost all of the good sites are in the Mark Twain Forest.

Most of the skirmish sites, old churches and schools, and springs where people picnicked are on federal land. Feds won't let you dig a 1/8 of an inch into the dirt. If it ain't on top of the soil, you aren't allowed to dig.

In several of the counties, down here, Carter, Ripley, Oregon, and the best part of Butler counties, the feds have the land locked up, and don't allow digging.

It has become discouraging.

Good hunting to you... you do know your way around....

Research is important. The more info you can find the better chance you have of finding the spots. Sorry that "big brother" has such a grip on your area. The Missouri
Conservation Dept has control of a couple of the best sites in our area and wont allow digging. Is frustrating since we the people's tax dollars was used to buy the land.
